Do you live in an alternate universe? The markets crashed well before Obama took office and there are just too many holes in this sinking ship to plug in that short time... you are a joke, but sadly there are still too many of your kind!
Of my kind? Oh, you mean someone that can think on their own. You should try it sometime.

My former neighbor worked there 20 years ago and is thrilled that the company Paul Hawken started has finally gone under! He smoked marijuana in the building and even though he no longer owns it, its name will be wiped from the face of the earth.

I would be ecstatic to see a revival of the company from which my husband bought me my first anniversary present 29 years ago--a filled-D handled garden fork, which I still use today to turn over garden beds and work in organic matter. The quality was and is unbelievable, an heirloom tool which has aged gracefully and without flaw. I went into one of the retail stores a few years ago and was disappointed--now I know why. Hooray for the closure, and for the possible rebirth!

Ha! We've been predicting this for years.
From a great gardening store to selling useless Chinacrap overpriced furniture.
Greenjeans is just down the frontage road in Strawberry, next to the Tamalpais Motel if you want to buy fabulous organic vegetables, fruit trees and other plants. It's family owned.
I feel sorry for the women that work at S&H, looking for new jobs in the middle of the Bush Depression is going to be gruesome.
Hey. Libtard...When does it become the "Obama Depression"? I thought this was all about hope and change. All I see is Dem corruption and finger-pointing!

Obama didn't cause or create this economic woe, Bush did. Um, HELLO?
WRONG! This all started with the misguided policies of the CLINTON ERA. "Lend money to people based on race who NEVER would have the ability to repay so they can buy a house." Yeah. Great Idea. Thanks for that.

The employees of Smith and Hawken were the backbone of the company. It would have thrived if only they had the chance to run it. Once again the CEO's have proven their ignorance !!

The Chicago store lost its focus once Scott's bought it. Friends of mine and I used to go there at least once a week if not more. And once the discount part closed it just wasn't the same. The building that housed the shop was terrific in itself and several of the employees knew us by name. It really is a pity.
Furthermore, once Target started selling stuff under the Smith & Hawken name I thought this is the end. And Target's stuff, even the ducks, was never the same as the merchandise at the Smith & Hawken shop. I have 8 of those ducks in my garden along with the Lutyens bench in teak and God knows what all else.
What a shame to see it go.

Being a loyal employee of the company even after the selling of it to Scotts, I am paticuarly irked by the "party" that was held by Mr. Hawken after the demise of our company. He has huge balls to think that the remaining people who held onto the "roots" of the company wouldn't be bothered by this. What a slap in the face to the people who worked so hard to keep the integrety of the company even after the corporate whore, Scotts, paid bitch Smith and bitch Hawken millions for their idea. Now what are we supposed to do throw a party for the loss of our jobs??? My manager has been sick for the last few weeks worrying about what her staff will do. In this economy it will be a struggle for any of us to find a good job, a job no less. These are people who depended on this company and we were completely blind sided by these actions. Within a 72 hour period we all had to decide, what next? Staying and seeing all of our hard work be divided between the liquidation scavengers has to be one of the most depressing things we live through, everyday.

It is sad that Smith & Hawken Stores r closing. I bought outdoor furniture A Grade quality. They could have saved the store from closing. If they closed the store that were not doing good & also few product that they made a bad judgement on . But any way i will enjoy my furniture and remember the best outdoor furniture store we had in the bay area.
