Good to see the city helping people to take recycling seriously, and neighbors ready to pitch in. Thanks Kuliouou!

It's too bad they can't pick up green waste more frequently. The new schedule actually reduces the amount of green waste a homeowner can recycle. In the past we could put our extra green waste in our empty gray bin and put it along side our blue bin on green waste day. Now we no longer can. They've reduced the capacity. They could/should do better.

While I am happy to finally see recycling getting serious in the islands, I do wonder where to put yet another huge bin. I am also concerned about people with large families, dogs and baby diapers who do not want to pay the extra money for twice weekly pick-up of rubbish. There is a risk of increased rat infestation with overflowing bins left standing around. Not to mention the smell of refuse sitting around in our hot climate for 7 days.
The plan is wonderful the execution wasn't thought out all the way though.

Yard waste bins? Ninety clams per? Anyone know who's making the big bucks off of this deal? My bin runneth over with curiosity ...At 2.16 million greenbacks, my curiosity bin is REALLY overflowing!

Looks to me that a batch of those green bin thingies could be put to use housing the homeless.

I wonder how much stolen copper wire one could stuff in one of these bins?

Residents should just make compost heaps in the back yard with the greenwaste. no need bins, no need trucks picking them up, no need diesel burning grinders.

I got to admit that green waste is 50% of my opala. It will help folks like me who have a green yard. But for thoughs who perfer the new ground cover called cement so they can park 6 or 7 cars in there yards it will be a waste, they have no green waste, only used auto parts.

I live in a planned community that is managed by an association. My yard has to be very neat, clean, and constantly maintained. The one green bin is quite adequate if I can keep doing maintenance on my yard before every pick up day. The problem I have is when they cut back the regular waste pick up (black bin) to once a week. It only takes a couple of days for the flies to lay their eggs and for the maggots to start growing, and not to mention the smell of rotting waste. Plus, just on the bi-weekly pick up, my bin is filled to the top because I have a family of 6! I paying out my butt already, so I don't intend to pay for a second pick up. I guess my only other choice is to do a dump run to the refuse yard.

I agree that recycling is the best solution; however I don't think this is going to reduce the clutter on our roadways. Instead of one bin now we will have three per house, all of them sitting on the curb because no one ever takes them in to their carport when they're not in use. At least that is how it is on my street, I am the only one who pulls it off the curb.

Didn't Mufi originally oppose curbside re-cycling? Now that the election is approaching, he is finally releasing the bins? Good timing!
Is the budget too tight this year for also repaving the roads in targeted neighborhoods? Or should we be content and grateful for the bins?
BTW- I got no problem with the $90 price tag on these bins. They are well-made. For a government purchase, I would expect a much higher price.

On my street, half the people leave the gray bins out 24/7. Now we'll have three times as many of these unsightly things out there continuously, in addition to the bulk waste that sits out there for a month. What a mess! Also, should I put my bottles and aluminum cans in the recycling bin? I don't think so, not at 5 cents per. There's an idea, take my pickup truck and raid the bins the night before pickup. Good moneymaker.
