Real wrote: Parent, you have been very vocal with your feelings towards the middle school. Maybe you should be a little more cautious of whom you share your feeling with. MMS has many supporters that don't necessarily work in the school or system. Just sayin. And WHY exactly should this parent not be vocal? Why should any parent not be vocal about their children's education? Frankly, you sound like someone who does not have children. The problem is not merely that the classes are no longer separated in such a manner as that the school system did not inform the parents of these children. This left them very little to no time to arrange finances for tuition or transfer to another school. It's like ordering a hamburger and paying for it only to have them hand you a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and say they have decided not to make hamburgers anymore. Real, there is no way you are not associated with the school system because frankly, the average person would not call out a widow on Topix when you have NO idea whether or not it is in fact her, if they were simply a "school system supporter"... And if you are going to call other people's name on Topix, have the guts to say your own name. Just sayin.

In ten years please update us on how well your gifted children are doing. Life can be a *itch!!! Make sure you are teaching them to strap one on if they have time to get their heads out of the books to listen to you, their parents!!! Teach your children, their intelligence does not solely depend upon what they learn from school. And, please remember it takes all kinds to make the world go around. Please be kind, there are many more talents than being gifted.

In my experience a lot of smart people don't have the good sense to come in out of the rain. Smart takes you many places but if you aren't smart enough to know to come in out of the rain or how to even feed yourself you are at a disadvantage. That's something no school can teach you. Oh yeah, a trait they are not getting from their parents is the ability to shut up for a second or two.

Have some questions. Just want some facts. I read in the paper where Milan got a waiver to acheive the great status. That is great. Good job. 1. Milan states the gap has closed between the gifted and non gifted. Did the smarter kids move down toward the not as smart kids or did the not as smart move upward toward the smarter? just wondering how the gap was closed? Where are the national TCAP scores? Did Milan do better or worse, than in the past?

It may very well be that the lower kids moved up. The gifted parents are the ones who are being vocal but their children are not the only ones affected by the change. I'm surprised the lower children's parents are not complaining more. Their children had been in a classroom that allowed them the individualized help they needed. They are now thrown into the deep end of the pool in many ways. They are very likely to be just as adversely affected as the gifted children. If those parents would complain then this would probably be reversed because of no child left behind.

I college there isn't any leveling BS and they don't play all these games of favoritism based on what your last name is or who you are in the town or how loud you cry. We are doing our kids a disservice by babying them with this kind of treatment. They have a big surprise when they turn 18. MSSD!!! Quit babying these kids! You now find yourself in a position of working 24-7 to kneel to a handful of parents at the risk of ignoring the majority of kids in this town! We don't need the kind of jackasses in this town that we have that are crying this hard! Let them go if that's what they want. It will make the class sizes smaller in Milan which is a good thing for the kids and more gains will be seen in test scores because it's harder to find gains from the high achievers vs. the regular and special needs kids. Good riddance!

Here's my question: I heard that at this meeting, the administrators only showed the 8th grade scores. Did anyone ask to see a different grade? How many 8th grade teachers left in the middle of the year last year? Just something to think about.

Good riddance! Careful there! Your second paragraph makes you sound a bit too informed- as in working for the system informed. I have been told Dr. Reel is aware of this website and is monitoring it for signs of system employees posting here.
