So if you bought tickets for a concert and then couldnt go you would want your money back on those. She sounds like she doesnt understand the rules of having grades to play....if he isnt cutting it why should they give her money back...to bad so sad.

Sometimes in life, you have to take responsibility for you and your family. She knew or should have known her son had some grade issues and she read or should have read the student handbook in how those grades impact his eligibility. Those handbooks are not firewood....Use the tools provided to care for and make decisions about your family! Or PAY THE PRICE!!!! She should be embarassed and ashamed! And if she is unemplyed and collecting benefits, the tax payers bought those shoes.....

There is more to this than what reads above. A single mother didn't understand a rule that affected her son. It was his and moms first experience with the OSHAA rules. Ultimate responsibiltiy lies with the school according to OSHAA rules. They did not inform in a timely manner. So when she gets upset, they make her feel stupid and she puts a sign up. So then a board member goes over and basically bribes her by saying I'll give you back your money if you take the sign down. Why? Because they are trying to pass an earned income levy and the sign makes them look bad. It's pathetic.

duh, grades have been the rule for so many years you'd have to be living in a cave not to have heard of them.
They've even had these "jock verses grades" on many tv shows were the jock needed to crack down on his studies in order to play.

I wonder just how much it cost to put the sign up....Academic probation is week to week as a motivational tool to remember what is important and that football is a privilege, not a right, within the school system for students to enjoy. The focus should be in redirecting the students needs to succeed academically and assistance provided as required, not in the $70.00 spent on a physical (good for the entire year of sporting activities) and cleats (I have sold many pairs and regained much of my investment on my children's slightly worn cleats).

As your kids age, they need to learn personal responsibility. Read the hand books and sports rules with them. Never let them off the hook because they did not get familar with the guidelines. No, do not give her back money. Her job is being an educated and responsibile parent.

Enough of this....Her son didn't have the grades to play and she wants to blame the school. His eligiblity didn't prohit him from practicing with the football team only from playing in a game. No one has bothered to ask the question of how many games he was not eligible to play in. Take responsibility as a parent and STOP blaming other people. We are talking about a Middle School Sport. What happens if your child is hurt during practice and can't play for the season are you going to ask for your money back then? This has got to be one of the most ridiculous scams I've ever seen. Grow up and take responsibility. As a parent the only thing you are teaching your son right now is that there is always someone else to blame for your own mistakes. If she wants to blame someone she should be blaming her son for getting bad grades in the first place. Have him go mow some yards to pay her back for the money she spent - Stop Blaming the School System for your lack of knowledge and bad parenting. The School System DOES NOT owe her anything.

I think all students should be able to play sports in school irrespective of their grades. This is a form of discrimination. It happens because we allow it to.

How can you say that not allowing a kid to play because they have bad grades is a form of discrimination? Children shouldn't be rewarded for bad behavior, and in my opinion, getting bad grades is bad behavior.

It is ignorant to assume that his grades are bad as a result of bad behavior.

A child's first responsibility in school is to learn. Maintaining a C average is usually the qualification for sports. With only a little effort that can be achieved. If this kid cannot be disciplined enough to maintain a C average then he does not have the time or the discipline to play sports. If my son hadn't have gotten good grades the school wouldn't have had an opportunity to kick him off the basketball team-I'd have done that first.

Get real people, this has nothing to do with the levy being passed. Anyone with half a brain will not base their vote on this situation, she is just trying to blame any one besides herself.
