once again, I'm embarrassed to be a citizen of Arcata! Drop it!! Whether is was budgeted on not, it's going to cost money, money we don't have or could use on other items of more importance. Ms Omelas says that the City Attorneys time has been budgeted, have court costs been budgeted? And that statement presupposes that the city attorney was just hanging out not working. I find that to be highly unlikely.

On behalf of the majority of voters that passed this measure, the City of Eureka should join in the appeal, at least with a letter of support.

We want them to leave the children alone. Why can't they advertise a successful recruiting event of their own instead of hanging out behind the high school and the mall?

Hopefully, our young people are smart enough to find their way to a recruiting office on their own volition.

Dave Meserve and his buddies have cost the City of Arcata a lot of money and embarrassment with their antics. Hey, Dave it is time to step up and help the City fund their appeal. Either step up or shut up.

I do not believe the recuiters are sitting outside trying to recuit children, young men and women yes, they are seeking the seniors who are graduating, most likely they are 18 years old. If a 17 year old wants to join the military they need parent approval (we know that Arcata parents would not give approval) again these are not kids. My feeling is that everyone who is graduating high school should have to enlist for two years minimum (lets hear the crys now). I retired after 20 years, my son enlisted in the Marines and is now in Afghanistan and I support his decision to volunteer to go (he didn't have to). Stop trying to breast feed you young adults, if they are going to enlist nobody is going to stop them. Support their decision and stop your crying over FREEDOM provided by the Military.

anonymous, I have not met the City Attorney. Of course, any competent attorney would have tried to kill this law very early on.

Here is my question to you Arcatans that are so worried. Why do you not trust your children? This is not a draft. And quite frankly, with the drug culture and the yearning for the bad old days of the late 60's and early 70's, your children probably would not make the cut to join the service period.

Hey supporter, when I got out I felt the same. But I have since met so many people that would not be useful. Why draft some fool that is wearing dreads and smoking dope and buys into the whole hippy culture thing. What would you do with them. The Marines wouldn't touch them so you are back to a bunch of useless slackers in the Army. Just my opinion.

Arcata should join Tod Paylin and join the American Independant Party and try to leave the United States...
