Why do we need a pharmacy on every corner?

Another pharmacy? The corner at East Main and Main Street Extension is already a nightmare - CVS and Stop & Shop Pharmacy are more than adequate to handle the area's prescription needs. I hope someone thinks to ask for a traffic study before any approvals are given!

I agree with doing something with the price rite plaza on washington street, that would be a great addition to the area, but do not feel the need to have another "pharmacy" in the area.

I would love to see something done with the Shop Rite building it is an eyesore to Washington street. Price Chopper would be an excellent addition to Middletown.

The area needs another Grocery store, but NOT Price Chopper. Another Pharmacy too, NO! Waldbaum's A&P held the lease on the old ShopRite store for too long, and eliminated competition, but A&P is a dirty store with prices too high for the area. Price Chopper on the other hand is a dirty filthy store too! If you have been to the one on the Berlin Turnpike you would know what I mean. If they do move in, keep the Health departments number available.

another pharmacy? 2 CVS in town, Walgreens and Rite Aid on Main St, plus the pharmacy in S&S. A Price Chopper would be perfect next to Home Depot. BUT...that means I can not dump my stuff behind there anymore. Great place to dump furniture and old grilles. Shhhhhhhhhhhh

I have shopped at Price Chopper for many years now and they are a fantastic company. Great deals, great selection and GREAT pharmacies! Their pharmacies are truly a step above any CVS, Walgreens or Stop and Shop. The pharmacist actually have time to talk to you about your medicines. You may think you don't need another pharmacy in town. Ask yourself if you want to be a person or a number. If you want to be a number than go to CVS and the other pharmacies. If you want to be taken care of, go to Price Chopper. And for any of you who haven't done your research, Price Chopper is a family run regional grocery chain.

There is a shortage of Grocery stores in Middletown, though I think the saturation level of pharmacies may have been met.

CVS has a 24 hour store and elsewhere a drive though. I don't know what the new Walgreens would be like but my experience with them to date has been (with a few select individuals I note) deplorable, filled with uncorrected rudeness.

The CVS drive thought folks on Washington street has been a joyous opposite in attitude.

As to Price Chopper, the store will be new, If you really look at the one on the Berlin Turnpike, you will see good prices, a clean modern store, and great wide selections. It was the cost of driving back and forth that makes it hard to shop there. I did shop in Price Chopper when lived in Vermont and they were regularly the lower cost store with a clean and friendly operation. There are other fine food store chains (Shaw's comes to mind) but they are not the subject of comment here.

A&P has an old ugly beaten up store to operate from, and is saddled with union employee costs. But I think they are doing their best to keep prices down.

Stop and Shop is a bit higher in cost, I think.
They did the longest rehab/remodeling job I have ever seen (what was it a year or something?.... it seemed like forever changing the locations of stuff to my and other customers' consternation!) This speaks volumes on their relative concern for customers as to the bottom line.

Now they have decided (and have implemented) a program to reduce the number of items they carry in order to cut costs (i.e., improve profits). I doubt they are worried about wee Aldi's, or are trying to reduce the prices we pay.

So, look them all over and think "May the best operations be patronized on the basis of our own individual preferences, and may the eventual shakeout take place."

It's a classic example of Shumpeter's "creative deconstruction."

Hope Price Rite does go into Middletown! I don't live there anymore but it's worth the trip there from East Hampton! We only have Shaws here which can get expensive.

I just visited the A&P on Washington Street. I find it to be a relatively nice store, but it could definetly use an update. It's in such a great spot in the Middletown Plaza, but it's appearance can decieve you. I looked around and everything looked fresh, even the meats, but the rundown appearance of the store would sort of scare you off from buying anything fresh. But I like A&P and their offerings are good, but this store would "clean up" (profits) if they just put some hard work in to cleaning it up. The store would fit well in Vermont though. It has a corner grocery store feel to it.

hey!! i work at the one on the berlin turnpike! i clean the front end every night and i see some gross shit... from customers lack of respect. but i clean it. i try very hard at my job... most days. i wouldnt bring one to your town. i found this cuz i heard about it, and i want to move to middletown. but to have a price chopper built, another fat cat corporation. i'd rather see something productive. seems everywhere needs more community... and less corporate money shit.
but the berlin turnpike one is not that dirty!
no more dirty than any other place i've shopped.

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Libra

Don't try to do too much at once today or you'll disappear up you know what! You're all fingers and thumbs, accident-prone and things start breaking. It won't help if you're trying to concentrate at work and a certain chatterbox doesn't know when to shut up. Ask them to be quiet but try not to sound shrewish.
