He should have been fired. I cannot imagine what these police officers go through and I do not want to. However, that does not excuse violence and especially against a woman.

Since when does MPD do anything about abuse? The officers have been mistreating people for years. From reading the paper it sounds like everyone had different stories.

That is exactly why this town needs new leadership. It has been okay to lie and be disrespectful for years. Totally out of control. I just wish this community would come together and get rid of all the political garbage.

Just to point out a couple of things. This was reported by a fellow police officer. The woman was so high she still doesn't even remember what happened or what was going on. You can view her picture on the jail website and she was still so high at that point (after several hours) you can tell she has no clue what is going on. In other words - this never would have come to light if the police themselves hadn't reported it. Doesn't sound like a huge conspiracy or culture of abuse to me. Reminds me of the guy who claimed he got beat up by an officer at Walmart and then when the video came out it showed he was never even touched. I'm sure the woman is hoping for a big settlement from the city so she can get out there and buy more pills. Just what we need, another druggie on the streets with money to burn.

It does not matter how high you are, how guilty you are, there is no need for physical abuse when you are not threatened. No one is calling this a conspiracy and as far as a culture of abuse...this has went on for years. It is not only physical abuse. It is verbal abuse and mental abuse. Do your job, arrest the criminals and do it with integrity. I do not care how many times you twist this around and I know for certain what is like to fool with someone who is drunk, pilled up and out of control...police officers are trained to handle this. He was out of line and I do not care what the video showed at Wal-Mart, this is not the scene from Wal-Mart. He should be fired and I hope she does sue the city...maybe the thug policeman and before you start, no not all of them are bad, but the majority of them are, should be fired or made pay her hospital bills out of his own pocket instead of the city. I do not care how you spin this, it was wrong.

I totally agree well said and I commend Officer Patterson and Chief Sharp for speaking out for what's right and not covering this up.All abusive Officer's should be fired along with those who jeopardize the public like driving thru crowds at 70 mph on fireworks night in front of East End School. The public's safety should be number one.

How right you are. I work on Cumberland Avenue and I see them speeding like 90 right through the middle of downtown. Usually for no apparent reason. It will all come to and end here shortly, hopefully. While we are on the subject of leud behavior...Your police chief is a married man, your dispatcher is a married woman, they are having an affair. How can you allow this? You can get out and arrest people and be more heinous than they are. Ridiculous.

This is for the city council. How come the officer was only given 2 weeks off.He should have been fired,BUT I guess you don't have an ordinance for that either,RIGHT,just like Matt Helms case,Leamon gets 3 days off with pay[vacation]Just like the officer ,leamon to should have been fired. Then again ,Josh Greene is related to Monk Greene,so it is all adding up as to why Josh wasn't fired.I can't figure out my more of the council members didn't SPEAK UP.Mammaw Gulley ,running for Mayor should have said something, just like the rest of them, although a couple did.I bet Mammaw was squirmming in his seat, maybe James will ok it to suggest another ordinance. What is the matter with our elected officials, they talk the talk BUT can't walk the walk.Ben don't care anymore,Mammaw don't have the nerve to speak up until it is all said and done,he is afraid he will step on MONKS toes.EVERYONE on the council should be ashamed .When Evelyn Farmer suggested 2 weeks off,ONE of council members should have spoken up and recomended him to be fired.Between this girl and Matt Helms they should just about own Middlesboro[IF THEY WOULD WANT IT].GO HOME CITY COUNCIL.mAMMAW, go buy you a set of BA--S.

I had just turned off my video camera and was sitting on the picnic tables at the park. There had to be at least 500 ppl in that area on the 4th. Kids running every where having a great time. All heard a 'bleep' of a police car and out of the blue, zipped thru the crowd down the street in front of East End School, 2 MPD cars. Everyone just stopped where they were and gasped! You are correct Mork - At least AT LEAST 70 MPH! Adults started yelling and cursing at this uncalled for MPD event! People started looking for their kids to leave the area. We thought a shooting or something must have occured for the high rate of speed occurring, but nothing came out in the paper. No one knows why they endangered the lives of so many that night. What was scarry, they never once, as we all saw, slowed down. No caution at all. Even if a shooting had occurred or whatever, THAT was totally uncalled for. Entirely WRECKLESS! If a child or adult had just stepped on the street to cross they would have been hit and killed instantly! God was watching over all of us in that area that night. Why is Jeff Sharp and our Mayor allowing all of this to go on?

The courageous and ethical action that Officer Patterson and Chief Sharp took, demonstrate that there are people of concience, and that there is redeeming value in Bell County! Please keep in mind that my name is "Momma Mia" not a mammaw. Oh! I forgot! Actually, this is the first time something like this has went public. It has happened before. Oh wait a minute, according to my emails with an elected official in Pineville he said it never happened. Ask the ex cop who cant walk straight and is hunched over now. He will tell you, maybe....

I agree i respect patterson for saying something about it. And for a cop to turn in another cop, you know it had to really be uncalled for. I am a man i dont think there is a women in this town i would have to smack or strike at all to subdue her. Green is a good size man over 200 pounds and has to hit a women? either he is on a power trip or has little man complex and has to hit women being held still to feel good about himself, doesn't sound like much of a man to me, i won't allow any man at anytime to strike a female around me im just not ok with that, and i think the people of the community, who agrees with this statement, that it is never ok for a male to strike a female should petition the council to have him fired.

I see the wealfare people and dope heads are awake now and posting on topics. This kind of thing happens daily all over America, in every department in every town but usually are isolated cases. I agree our police department could do better on a lot of things. On the other hand, they do most things right. The Date this incident happened, YOU nor I were there so I'm sure there is probably a lot more to the story. He should have exercised control. Patterson and Sharpe did in fact do the right thing. What happened, happened. It's over. The wealfare people and druggies and total idiots are not going to let this rest, rather play detective, make up stories and goes on. People have no life around here.
