Do they have lights on them? If not, they shouldn't be out after dark

Look, I'm not sure where any of you get your info. They have lights on them. Usually many more than your average car; blinking LED lights all over them, front, back, sides, they would make the horse glow if they could! It is a hilly, somewhat narrow section of road with poor visibility. The speed limit is reduced throughout that area for that exact reason. Unfortunately, these things happen and the buggy always loses because wood and canvas will never be able to take a hit from metal. An accident involving two cars in this exact location would never have made a headline at all. Just another exploitation by the media because someone chose to live life outside the perceived norm.

I am a relative of Jeffrey Mazur, and I happen to know the entire CORRECT story that leaves out the over-dramaticized news-station buzz-words. I want everyone to know that he did everything in his power to avoid hitting the slow (almost stopped) black, unlit buggy (that had one minor reflector) on ROUTE 87. I have never seen anyone in my family so upset and emotionally shaken after an accident. There were ABSOLUTELY no drugs or alcohol involved, just a very unfortunate situation that was extremely difficult to otherwise avoid. He actually called the hospital that night to make sure all the people were okay. He plans to PERSONALLY make amends with these people. I'd like to see how many other drivers who have hit buggies step up to the plate and make up for what they've done. Jeff and his family are doing everything they can to pay back what was lost and make things right. Hopefully some good will come from this, perhaps better lit roads, or stricter laws for buggies driving at night.

I am so tired of these buggies on the road. We yankee people are always blamed no matter what the circumstance. I have often come across buggies at night that just appear out of nowhere....literally. The drive down the road at night with their lights off to save their batteries. They then turn them on when they see a car coming. If they are not paying attention or they forget bam! A car hits them and the evil yankee person is to blame for driving to fast.
I am tired that the amish don't have to follow the same saftey standards as the rest of us. Those parents should be in jail for driving an overloaded buggy.
I am sick and tired of all the manure they are allowed to leave on the road making dangerous slick spots. Try stopping fast when the road is wet and you hit some fresh manure. It is just like driving on ice! They could be required to have a collection device on their buggy but no that would not be fair! To heck with fair when it causes other people to get into accidents.
I am tired of the fact that we all have to register our cars and pay license fees every year on our cars. This money goes to pay for road repairs. The amish get a free pass.
This amish family should be calling the driver of this truck and telling him they are sorry for driving an unsafe vehicle on roads that he paid for and for all the grief this is causing him and his family.
