Why are the store hours of the downtown stores so limited? If one works M-F, daytime hours, it is nearly impossible to shop here.

And worse than that, most stores have even more limited hours on Saturdays and no hours on Sundays!

So, we end up shopping either in Burlington, Rutland or online. And we would rather not.

Can someone explain?
So true

Same problem here. And yet, I hear a lot of complaining from these same merchants about how bad business is.
And now, some businesses are either going out of business or are opening their doors in non-retail type spaces. Strange.

And, I am tired of hearing the all whining about lack of sales (in front of customers) when I do manage to find time to shop downtown.
Lazy!!

If the people who work at the stationary store and the book store weren't so nasty, maybe the owners of these stores wouldn't have to complain about business.

Frankly, I vote for Staples!

Have you SEEN THE PRICES at Ben Franklin since it changed owners??? Have you noticed the how the quality of the products have been downgraded to a lot of crap!

I tried very hard to continue to support that store. But, I won't be shopping there any longer!

I couldn't agree more! And I feel sorry for the people who have to work there. They're nice people; bad owners!!

NOT, not the former yarn and bead shop. Gone forever, I'm afraid.

The new shop is full of overpriced stock and lots of frippery--who needs it. Bad location. And most of all, unfriendly environment!!

The last owner of that shop was the best! She was perfect for the job. The building had problems but that was completely the landlady's fault--and irresponsible she is.

They can't be bothered to stay open on Sundays. They can't be bothered to stay open ONE, just one evening during the week.

So, when am I supposed to support downtown? I simply can't. I have to work. I can't set my own hours.

We go to Burlington one day a week, or every other week, and shop for groceries (much cheaper!) and clothing. And are definitely in Burlington and Manchester at holiday time.

P.S. WHAT happened to Ben Franklin??

I find most of these store owners are very snotty. And don't even attempt to return something. That doesn't go over very well.
