Wow what an article! The happenings and people associated with Rattlesnake Island sound bizarre. I've often heard the wild rumors about it when I dock on South Bass, but I would have never thought it was so weird there. The mafia wannabe Chef, his odd sounding wife, foreign women, burning their garbage, and revealing secrets regarding Bob Serpentini's sexuality! If I was this Boggs guy I would have left immediately after finding out about having to share his tips with the grass cutters. At least we now know what really is going on up there. I'll never buy a car from Serpentini again, what a clown.

I have been to Rattlesnake Island three times as the guest of a stamp collecting friend there and have never seen anything akin to what Matt Boggs described. It sure smells like sour grapes to me.

This story is not surprising. Boggs, like many others, get hired into what appears to be a rad job-- only to find out that it is not what it seems-- and get fired for no apparent reason. If I were Boggs, I would have thought twice before I agreed to take the job. I am not surprised of the conditions on the island. The rich have their toys while the workers are the little guinea pigs treated and marginalized as second rated (if not lower) humans. This is a story made for a tv reality show. One has heard of Temptation Island, this Rattlesnake Island sounds nothing more than a lust island where rich capitalists prey upon unsuspecting foreign women. It is the classic case of things don't always appear to be glorious. Now I know why it is a private island... the upper bourgeoisie doesn't want anyone to know what is going on. And to echo the sentiments of Mr. John Newman, I will not be buying a car from Serpentini.

After reading about Boggs' experience I feel ashamed to be American. If our jobs are not going over seas they are being taken over by non-citizens regardless of region. Serpentini is tratior to America and should be run out of town.

Call me a New York skeptic but I think this whole thing is a put up job. I knew Ralph Dietrick the Island Airways pilot who flew the air mail postage to these islands and from what I see there is no real magic here. It smells like an urban myth. Secrecy ? Intrigue ? Mafia ? You would think there is a berried treasure there from all the roomers. Heavy wealth ? From a secret membership list ? Give me a break ! Maybe it's just a marketing ploy to sell stuff.

Personally I can care less about Serpentini's bi-sexuality, but the thing that I find upseting about this story is the hypocrisy. Serpentini has for years fostered the "American and Proud of it" theme in his commercials. Why does he not hire Americans on this island? Interestingly, he would not be interviewed for this story. Truth does not fear investigation. I suspect this is not the end of the REAL story and practices that go on up on that island. I'll be looking forward to the day when all of this see's the light of day. Buy another car from Serpentini? HA! Not on your life!

I believe we need to keep an eye on this island club this summer. Perhaps the department of INS could investigate that these Europeans are indeed legal to be working in the US. I doubt they are.

To all of you speaking about the wonderful Rattlesnake Island....cease and desist with the negativity. As the past long term manager of Rattlesnake and neice of the former owner, please allow me to recommend you get your facts straight before posting false and slandering commentary. The island has, yes, always been the topic of mystery and intrigue in Lake Erie. The existing members/owners do a superb job of directing the operation. Each are excellent business people in their own right, nearly all having fostered their financial wealth through hard work and determination.
So, to all you dissenters, just leave it alone....try a little hard work and determination in your own lives....perhaps you will like the results. And to the gentleman speaking about the illegality of the foreign young men and women working as seasonal associates on the island...I hate to rain on your parade, but they ARE legal and certainly have all the necessary documents to work in the US for their summer stint. Unfortunately, and based on years of results and findings, American college folks have had no desire to jaunt out to an island, away from friends, cars, parties, etc, etc, to work...shame, but true. |

Well, to be perfectly honest, Rattlesnake Island, and all who reside there, are definitely up to something in my opinion. Now, I can understand the need for privacy in a private society, but there is no need to fire someone, like Boggs, on such ludicrous terms. It seems to me that Serpentini has a lot more going on there than meets the eye, and i would not be surprised if someone were to discover criminal acts being committed there.

I was at Rattlesnake once with a guest who is no longer associated with the place. At any rate we were both discreetly asked if we were need of female companionship during our weekend stay on the island. I'm guessing the Asian woman who asked us this question was referring to the European female staff that was working there.Of course we did not take her up on the offer as I'm and my friend are both married. So yes this place does offer anything to their clients as advertised.

I'm just glad this place got exposed for what it really is. Shysters, pimps, and thugs all run by a crooked car salesman. I'll be sure to tell my friends @ Gross Point Yacht Club this story.
