I know all hospitals make mistakes and I am sorry for the loss of their child. I would like to say Shands Hospital was the only hospital who could find the disease my late husband had ,after 2 years of us searching for help thru the Medical fields. We went from Ohio, where we lived at the time thru Tennessee until we got to Shands and after 2 weeks they found the rare disease and even though it was a fatal disease at least we knew what the problem was. If the doctors had found the problem when we first started in Ohio, perhaps he would have been alive today. Shands does more good than evil, and they cure more than they kill. I have been there with my brother and after North Florida Regional had almost killed my brother, we took him to Shands and they at least gave us 2 more years with him. So Shands in Gainesville is not all bad. You do have to remember the good with the bad and the ugly. Shands doctors are the most caring I have found. They call you at all hours of the day and they treat you and your family, or at least that is the treatment we recieved when we have been there.

I agree, the Gainesville area should have a childrens hospital. I personally have 2 children with medical problems that were found after birth. I lived 2 counties north of St. Pete at one time and would travel to ALL CHILDRENS for any medical issue with my children, and had Pediatric doctors in that area, it was well worth the drive, and numerous city bus rides. I currently live 1 county south of where WOLFSONS Clinic is, and I am grateful to be here, as my children still need specialized care. Also I have numerous doctors at Nemours, which specializes in children. Good luck with in your efforts to raise whatever money needed.
