After 2850 lives saved, after acknowledging 20 1/2 STDs, after a hung jury in the WSVN weatherladies harrassment case, and after being one of the most famous civil servants ever to serve a community in South Florida, Adam the Macho Lifeguard has turned in his whistle and speedos and severed ties with the City of Miami Beach. Macho, who was retained on contract after his DROP ended last year, said the time was right to move on. " I have been through alot over the last few months. I have been at this job since 1976 when President Ford was still in the White House. It is time to try new things."
Macho was once called the most famous person in South Florida (in A New Times Poll) after Neil Rogers and Rick Sanchez. There had been some rumores, according to fellow rescuers, who refused to be identified, that he was heading to Copenhagen, Denmark to settle some scores and press some charges through Interpol. No one could elaborate on what that specifically meant.
Some beach goers were upset to see Adam go. Mike Peterman said " the guy was a beast. he would run windsprints then swim out to oil tankers and freighters. Later he would squat about 300 or 400 pounds in the sand." Niki Wetts added " for an old man, he was really hot. I spent alot of time in his stand. I learned alot about backgammon and Parchesi", she said coyly.
It is undermined when the City of Miami Beach will proclaim an "Adam the Macho Lifeguard Day" but rest assured, when it does happen, alot of men and women will be feeling festive.
