Ms. Saltiel your letter is very passionate and heartfelt. The German atrocities should never be forgotten but niether should the Japanese, Korean or Vietnamese. Living through something as horrendous as war must be undeniably horrible. But you are condemning the wrong person. Many Americans cannot forget the actions of our enemies. But we are forced by our government to do so. Our government has helped to make Germany and Japan economic powers. American servicemen have to live with the memories of Bataan and the treatment they received as POW's in Japan, Vietnam and Korea. Our government has readily put a handout and allowed immigrants from all these nations to come to America and roost. These are the same people that were torturing and killing Americans during these various conflicts. I never fought in any of these conflicts thank God. But, I have had loved ones that did. I watch programs that depict the vile actions of these people and it makes me angry. Especially, when I see peoples from these countries protesting America. So your anger is misguided.

GALINA SALTIEL.....in your letter you speak of all the horrible things that happened during WWII, and they are true. However, it does not and should not alter the constitution of the United States to prevent an American citizen, born before or after WWII, of speaking or showing his/her opinion on any issues.
You cannot allow anyone's experiences, whether good or bad, to infringe on the freedoms that our forefathers fought to give to each and every person who was born in America or has chosen to be an American.
You may feel hurt, anger or disgust at the ways some people express their ideas and beliefs, but it is their right! God Bless America!

This is the United States of America. There is one Flag and flying the flag of any other country should be considered a crime. This is not a free speech issue it is an allegiance issue. It's time that Americans were proud to be Americans and not some hyphenated hybrid. It doesn't matter if it's German, Mexican, Canadian or Irish.

The same right to free speech that protects your lame and uneducated/uninformed statements protects other lame, uneducated/uninformed, and yes, sometimes despicable and disgusting statements of opinion. You take one away and you take away the other.

Flag flying, crime, allegiance? Show allegiance or you are guilty of a crime? What would the punishment be: execution, community service, reprogramming? This does not sound like freedom or democracy; maybe it is the new capitalism.

I made my comments just to show that liberals respect free speech as long as it goes along with what they agree with. I could care less about what flag you fly as long as you pay your taxes and obey pour laws. Just wanted to prove that tolerance according to liberals is a 1 way street.

What "our laws" require or should require is the motivation for the discussion. Whether or not a person who chooses to fly the Nazi flag was born after WWII is irrelevant. It makes the act no less reprehensible. That people condone a mentally healthy, grown man's decision to fly the Nazi flag in 2009 demonstrates the failure of our society to instill empathy and a sense of propriety in its citizenry. A person who chooses to fly the Nazi flag is unlike an artist or political dissident who is challenging the norm and attempting to elevate humanity. He is a crude person who seeks attention. His actions are akin to plastering pornography on his house and claiming that it is art. His actions are akin to calling for physical harm to a leader and claiming that it is political dissent. Limitations on the Freedom of Speech do exist. And, they ought to prohibit flying the Nazi flag in the manner that it has recently been flown in Las Cruces.

I guess I missed the point; maybe others were more alert >:}

Maybe instead of making this idiot take his flag down, all the neighbors should fly their american flags right side up in front of their homes. Throw in a few POW/MIA flags too.
