Both but mostly rez. There seems to be a fad going on. Some of our youth can not see past today and have no hope for tomorrow. This girl never had a stable home, her parents wouldnt raise her or her siblings. All she ever wanted was that and I feel that is what would have made the difference. The youth do not have the ability to rise above hard times. I dont have all or really any answers but I am sick of it. We need to create a place on the rez. that can home either temporary or permanently these troubled kids. Some just neeed a safe place once in a while, a warm meal and someone to talk to. We take care of the elders, the drunks and even the gamling addicts have help. We also need to hold parents accountable. If you are not raising your child or children then do not count on any assistance, housing, dividends etc... from the tribe. We need to get tough on them. We also need to get tough on the kids and teach them consequences and that you can screw up and things can be bad but they can only get better if your here to make them get better and that takes hard work sometimes. I dont want to see or hear of another beautiful child dying in hoplessness.

Be appreciative to all of the people who are out their working on this problem, giving their time and lending their hearts to prevent this tragedy. They are the unsung heroes and when another person dies like this, the grief is overwhelming.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the family, friends and loved ones of this girl. I live on an indian reservation and am a tribal member and the effects of suicide are devestating to families. However it is something we continually go through. I don't know what else can be done besides educate and counsel our youth.

She may not have lived with her biological parents, but she had a loving family that raised her since she was a baby. How do you know what she wanted in life. She did have a stable home and a family that loved her very much. WE LOVE HER & WILL MISS HER..RIP

How can anyone say or assume what anyone needs or wants? We, as Native Americans have had problems since day 1 and when anyone has problems we all seem to know what is wrong. Why can't each and everyone of you's help your neighbors, families, etc., instead of assuming!! This child needed someone and where were you at? Living on a reservation with nothing to do for excitement can lead to depression. Either you start drinking, doing drugs, pills. All your tribal council representives know what is going on with these children and still nothing is done! Alot of these children don't have relatives that will take them in ~ there is always an excuse! No room, not enough food, or they won't get paid for them! So, each and everyone of you take a good look and offer them something. Not just your words, or say you care!

It is time to quit making excuses for dead beat parents. Yes there are aunts, uncles and grandparents but no one takes the place of the childs parent. When there is two able bodied parents and neither of them take responsibility it does play into how things turn out. I take care of children who are not my relatives and I know first hand how that void can not be filled. What gets to me is that many of these people have children, more than one and then dump them. Yes it does matter!

hey everyone well another native hung herself today, at ruidoso high school there is a cult goin on, many people had made a promise to each other that they were to kill/hang themselves, so far 3 of the people that were on a list have gone threw with it, i wish i knew who else is on that list "that the police will not release" , so i can perhaps interven and stop these suicides because its certainly not worth it, i mean my lil sisters go to rhs and i do not want them falling into this crown of people who think that this will get them attention and love. it is certainly not necessary...

A happy young girl does not just kill themselves! Love your children and quit expecting someone else to raise them. Do you think all the girls on "the list" lived the "perfect" life? SOMEONE caused a feeling of hopelessness in their lives.....

yes a child does need their parents if they are able bodied just like no more from washington concluded. but since some people are worthless when it comes to parenting a child we need to search for supports systems for children who suffer from depression & have no where to turn or no one to turn to. me being a single mother whos parents are both dead and gone will say that i probably am fimiliar with the thoughts that run through these childrens heads before hand cause ive been depressed before and felt as if i had no where to turn and had the thought of suicide would very seldomly pop into my head & thankfully i'd think about the future and never came close to going through with it. see i was only 8 when my mother passed away, by the age of 16 i was a single teenage mother, and by the age 18 i lost my dad too. i felt so alone and as if nobody cared but then i looked somewhere where i knew i could go and i wouldn't be denied and that was to my lord jesus crist. i just prayed for strenght and comfort and i found peace withing him. all i have to say is keep these youth in your prayers and pray that they find god before something tragic happens again. i feel so heartbroken for these kids & their families, i may not have know them personally but im mescaleo apache and here were all family and we need to get through to our children as a family, pray as family by asking god to give our children strength to live their lives to the fullest become succefull and help mentor others just as themselves, & finally we need to find the issue as a family and solve it so this nonscence does not continue. PLEASE KEEP THE MESCALERO APACHE TRIBE IN YOUR DEEPEST THOUGHTS AND MOST SINCERE PRAYERS!!!

Things need to change. The old thought of if a child is Native American he or she is better off on the rez. that is ignorant. And if someone pulled that with me I would fight tooth and nail for my children. I am sorry for the loss of such potential but the tribe needs to get priorities straight and one area in dire need is the court system. If their father wants them they are his and deserve to be in his life.

I moved away from Ruidoso and just on time where the kids are concerned. There was too much peer pressure.

This isn't just a rez problem, it happens all over the place. Who really knows why they do it. They could come from a wealthy background too, it could be from feeling empty inside, no hope, drugs, or something more sinister and dark.

Praying for you all in Midland, Texas. May God spread his peace in your city and call everyone together with a common purpose to help each other and love each other. Every human needs to know that they are loved and wanted.

28"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30
