Power outage in the a.m. June 13

Does anybody know the cause for this? Heard there were police and power trucks blocking some roads on Merritt Island around Tropical Trail.

Ya, the problem was, the road turned and the car didnt. Same usual place, a block past the old "Dog-Gone Groceries" on S. Tropical Trail.

The driver/passenger was air lifted, while the other driver/passenger was handcuffed for failing the field sobriety test. The power pole was smashed at the bottom cause the top line to touch the bottom lines, shorting out alot of transformers in the area.

As of 8 am this morning, they were still working on replacing the pole and restoring the power to the remaining house that were affected.

Power has been full restored at damaged pole at 12:4pm. New pole looks good! AT&T and BHN are back to full power as well.

Only 12 hour down time with a completely destroyed pole. Not bad really!

How'd you find out about it? We saw the pole but they had already taken the vehicles away, tried googling but nothing on it so far.

Simple, I live 4 houses away.. I was there...

i was there too for the whole thing till 4am, it was horrible :( but does anybody know if the passenger made it, he was so bad off i dont know if he lived or not?

No body knows. For some reason, this all starting to look almost like a coverup. Theres no booking photo of the guy that was arrested. Theres no court schedule of the guy that was arrested. In fact, it took hours to even find the guys name that was arrested.

well i know i found the guy info when he got arrested, he wons a business here in Merritt island. i found it on sunday but remember he wouldnt have been booked untill today because it was on a weekend he got arrested and monday was a holiday, so maybe something will be up by now or tomorrow morning. i keep looking in the obituarities for a death of a 22 year old but nothing, so my guess is hes ok. just sucks cuz it was a long weekend for the driver.

I live in North Carolina and I know the 22-year old - he's a friend of my daughter. He survived and is now out of the hospital.

To date, there is still no booking photo, and there is still no court information.

Everyone else that was arrested on that same night/morning, ALL have booking photos and court information in the system. They had it in there on Monday. Here it is Wednesday, and the guy that was arrested still has no information.

The amount of property damage that is still there, is a sad reminder of what happened. Neither of the homeowners can afford to repair the damage done.

In fact, the one homeowner just bought the house 2 weeks ago. What a great welcome to the neighborhood gift. I think its time to get FOX35 on this one.

It bothers me that nothing about this accident appeared in the paper. Maybe if only one person read about it, took a moment to think, it could prevent it from happening again. So sad the florida today didn't find it worthy of taking a small spot.

ah ha. the drivers father is an attorney. guess we don't need to try to guess "why" anymore.

Interesting. His drivers license was suspended 9 times since 1999.

1:44 a.m. June 13. Arrested: Sonny James Duffy, 43, of 633 Jillotus St., Merritt Island. Charges: driving under the influence with property damage, driving under the influence.

this is all i could find on him! and yes its so sad, i look at the damage every day pulling out of my street and everytime my stomach drops :(

July 15 he has to go in front of the judge.

Unbelievable.. This guy actually pleaded NOT GUILTY to all charges. Also claimed indigent status. IE: Public defender appointed.

New Court date set for 8-18-2009

Unbelievable. Court Re-scheduled for 9-15-2009.
