They do teach english in high schools, but it is up to the individual to challenge themselves to use in correctly. In high school, the student should be able to use literary techniques and their applications and move toward a personal appreciation of literature. They should be introduced to the key components of literary analysis and will explore themes that will help them to excel in upper-level English literature courses

Consequently, this should give them as adults the ability to converse in a meaningful and understandable manner.

Have you been in a highschool lately? My daughter is a sophmore, high honers student the past 2 yrs, and she goes crazy because people don't want to learn! I received an email from my father-inlaw this week that describes to "Evolution of Math" over the past 40 or so years - it is really scarry - and I could easily apply it to English or science or any other subject! These damn liberals!!
