Mother of a Friend

I am devastated by the news of these senseless deaths. I did not know either of these girls but my daughter was a friend of Nicole's at UMD. These girls did nothing. They were at the wrong place at the wrong time. Why did no one notice this mentally ill man in the stairwell? Why didn't anyone report his infatuation with guns? What's with his (former) girlfriend not knowing he was dangerous? How about his parents? Two beautiful girls are dead. They could be my daughters.

Jewish people don't hold wakes. Joshua Mendel is not claimed as one of our own. He belongs with the likes of Alexandra Wade. Too bad Carolyn Kestenbaum "mixed in". Big_Con wrote: Let’s see if I can follow this one. A nice Jewish boy from the Chicago suburbs buys guns when he is living in Iowa. He and the aforementioned guns follow his girlfriend to Arizona to attend college so he can be near her. Girlfriend then sees the light and dumps him. Then, two nice Jewish girls from Long Island get gunned down by the aforementioned nice Jewish boy who subsequently reduces my tax burden by shooting himself. Here is where you lost me. Now it’s the fault of the State of Arizona and their “gun culture” that these three people are dead, and our Senator, John McCain should be held accountable? Mr. Schiffman, the only thing that Arizona had to do with this tragedy is to clean up the mess. Your daughter and her friend were guests of my state as was Mr. Mendel. Now, I know that most of you folks back east might find this surprising but we are part of the Union now and our citizens are privy to the same Constitutional rights as you New Yorkers are. We don’t pat down folks at the border or kick down doors in the middle of the night to search for weapons either. Joshua Mendel didn’t buy his guns in one of our ‘Supermarkets’ from some ‘redneck’ behind a check stand. He bought them in Iowa, a state that throws up considerable roadblocks to gun ownership. Then, he had possession of them in Illinois, one of the states most hostile to gun owners, before moving to Arizona. Mr. Schiffman, I’m sorry for your family and for the families of the others involved. Our children are truly our greatest accomplishments. But I say as an ex-Long Islander, ex-Chicagoan, gun owner and current citizen of Arizona,“please, stay out of our business”. I am against gun violence too, and the knife and baseball bat kind as well. I choose to carry a weapon so that I can defend myself and my family from the sub-human garbage that the same liberal hand-wringers who support gun control try so hard to humanize. I like to have the option of firearm ownership as I feel that ultimately I’m the only one responsible for my family and their safety. The police aren't everywhere and I know that the only thing the police are going to do for me is write a report about the dead scumbag in my foyer or restaurant parking lot. If you don’t like our “gun culture”, stay out. Don’t send your kids to school here, don’t come here to play golf in February when it’s 15° in NY, or treat your wife to a weekend at one of our world-class spas, and for God's sake don't retire here. You don’t have to like it, or us. Just don’t try to change the way we do things here. We happen to like things the way they are.

Yeah, like Adolph Hitler was Jewish and put the Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto before sending them to the death camps (you and your ilk probably deny the Holocaust even happened)

I think Ron should prevail upon the car manufacturers of America to provide automobile security systems that have infra-red heat sensors that warn the occupants of would-be attackers lurking in parking garages.
