Yesterday as I was picking up my hamburgers in Iota for the fund raiser for softball teams in Iota, I started reflecting on all of the fund raisers we have in Iota and how each one of them are successful.
We have so many "giving" people in Iota, those who Volunteer and those who Support programs in Iota. How lucky we are that so many people are willing to give of their time and funds to either work for the fundraisers or purchase items to raise money for such causes.
And, this is not just lately. Iota and the surrounding community is a wonderful place to rear children. Iota and the community people are such giving people. This town and community as a whole is a loving and giving town filled with people ready to help others.
We can see the reflection of the spirit of volunteering and giving in this community by the number of new families who have moving into this area. That is summarized in the number of students in all four schools in Iota. Recently, I had someone who lives out of town but works in the Iota Community for many many years, tell me that when they came to Iota work, they were here just a short time when they realized how strong and committed the residents of this area were to their family and friends. In fact, the person stated that they saw how well people treated each other like family. "Not often seen in cities or other communities". I was so proud to hear this.
We are indeed lucky. We don't let family names, race, or background guide us to the real meaning of who we are in this community. I am so proud of our community and will always be grateful that God allowed me to live here with my family.
In alot of ways, it isn't only the birth family members that help to rear families. It is the community that provides the stability and love to all it's members that makes the Iota community a great place to live.
To all members of this community I would like to say "Thanks". "Iota" what a wonderful place to live.

I certainly agree with you. Last night I had to opportunity to go to the St. Francis School Athlete Banquet, which is always a wonderful event. But, last night put the icing on the cake to your comment "Thanks Iota".
On top of seeing many parents and grandparents, coaches and teachers, there to salute the young St. Francis School Athletes, we had the opportunity to hear a "down home" young man, Bufford Jordan as guest speaker. Bufford a graduate of Iota High School, McNeese State University and a former well recognized New Orleans Saints football player was the guest speaker.
It brought tears to my eyes when Bufford began his speech by first thanking St. Francis for inviting him as the guest speaker but also, when he starting thanking the Iota community, its parents, grandparents and supporters of all children's activities for his own personal success. He gave credit to his family, the community and all the Iota supporters for all the good things that happened in his life.
It was absolutely wonderful to hear this young man speak, he actually echoed all that "Thanks Iota" said about the community.
But, best of all, Bufford recognized what this community did for him as a youngster and young man and he is now giving it back by training young men in the area in the sport of football. Bufford's heart is truly big and kind and you could tell how much he loves his home community, the schools and the people in them. Tears came to his eyes as he spoke and you really knew he meant what he was saying and the love he had for his hometown and the people living here.
Iota has produced many, many successful people and many have returned to this area or never left because they know that Iota is the best place to offer children and others a place to live.
We have alot of "Bufford Jordans" out there in the Iota community and I am so proud to be a part of it.

Such as Lawrence Willis.

I ran track at UL-Lafayette with Lawrence. He has gone on to represent the United States at the World Track and Field Championships as one of the best triple jumpers in the nation.

He also works full time for Acadian Ambulence.

Iota Resident, I certainly agree with you. He is another one of our great Iota boys that I am proud to know. Also, not to leave anyone out, we certainly have a number of other people both men and women who have served our country in the armed forces and to our saddness some who have loss their lives doing so. Plus, again those numbers of men and women who have really gotten up by their boot straps in the blue collar and white collar world. Some have taken something from nothing and made lives for themselves. Again, all of those are what makes Iota what it is today.

Yes, yes, yes, Iota is GREAT. I brought my family back to this town to raise and I will never regret it. I remember the support and confidence that was established by this GREAT Iota Town and I want that for my children. Although I live in the country side my children get the support from the community that helped me succeed in life. All those who live in the Iota Community are certainly very lucky people.

If you haven't met Heather, the new Nurse Practiontior in Iota, make a visit by the doctor's office in Iota. She is one great lady, with alot of energy and one great personailty. Iota is very lucky that this young lady chose to work in Iota as health care provider. She has a great personality and is so very kind and a good listener.
In addition, the two assistants working with her, Janet and Crystal are very nice and makes your visit to the office pleasant.
Iota is a great place.

Iota has one of the greatest group of caregivers. My grandmother need 24 hour care and she has a small family and they need help. The caregivers are so giving and loving to my grandmother. We are all grateful to have such giving people to help us out. God Bless all of the caregivers in the area. They are doing God's work.

Last night 88 students graduated from Iota High School. The football stadium and side lines were filled with proud parents, family, friends and community supporters.
It was a beautiful sight to see all that support from all of these people as they cheered, clapped and grinned from ear to ear as the Seniors received their diplomas, awards and scholarships.
A total of $350,000 was given out to the Senior in scholarships. That was absolutely wonderful
These are a great bunch of kids and parents, family, friends and teachers of 12 years have themselves to thank for getting these students to where they are today.
Even more interesting through a special college program offered to all students, some of the Seniors graduated with several hours of college credits that are offered to juniors and seniors for their correspondence college courses. Which by the way is absolutely FREE to the schools in Acadia Parish. One student even had 30 hours of college credits for her to begin her college career. Other students had 12-18 hours credit to begin their college credits.
Then an annoucement was made by the principal that the school had received their scores from the recent state test given to students 9-11 in measuring their level of competence in English and Math. He said that the greatest number of students score with Mastery in English and Math. This was a wonderful gift to all the teachers who teach all the subjects. Iota High has a great group of teachers and do put their all in their work as many families have voiced.
Again, another point for this community. We do have a great community, IOTA>

As I came up this outstanding forum topix, I smiled to myself and thanked God that he gave me and my family to find this wonderful community.
Not all is perfect, but so much is good in the Iota Community that I thank God everyday for bringing us here. My wife wanted to live here and we found a nice affordable home with great neighbors.
Thanks God.

I started reading this topix and I thought I wanted to add my 2 cents to this. Everyday I feel so lucky to be in a great community like Iota, although I don't live within the town my children, husband and I get the same results and feelings from such a wonderful community. I am blessed that I have lived here all of my life as well as my husband. This is truly a supportive community and I love the way people help each other out in time of need. No one turns down an opportunity to help someone in need. What a great way to teach our children how to treat people. Thank you members of Iota and the surrounding community. I know without you we would not have received the help we got when we needed.

Recently we have had a series of deaths in the Iota Community and it is wonderful to see the support that the community give to the family. It doesn't matter who you what, what you do or the color of your skin, people support one another to the upmost. How lucky we are to live in this community with such a caring and loving commitment to support and care when people are faced with a death or hard times in their families. We are indeed blessed by God who has helped us teach our grandparents, parents and children to give of themselves when in time of need. I am one lucky person, alone with my kids and family to live here.

IOTA COMMUNITY thanks for being the community you are. I know we all have our little grips, but thank God we are not like some of the people in our neighboring town north of us, Eunice, who have so much bitterness and or fighting against one another against anything and everything that comes to mind. I thank God everyday that I live in a community that is more of a family type and help one another. Maybe these folks could take an example of working together like our Iota Community does.
Thank God to all of You. M
