CROWLEY – Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon stated that Tyler Daniel Short, 17, of St. Joseph Avenue, Iota was arrested by detectives with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office Friday afternoon and charged with sexual battery of a juvenile.
According to Melancon the incident took place in the town of Iota in December of 2008. The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office was contacted to assist and following an investigation a warrant was issued for the arrest of Short.
Short was placed in the Acadia Parish Jail with bond set at $15,000 by District Judge Glenn Everett.
The investigation is continuing.

No one needs any details about anything. Families on both side have been hurt terribly I am sure. The law will take care of the details, and handle things in the way needed. Continuing to bring this issue only keeps people talking and the hurt keeps us. Let us pray for both families they definitely need prayers to bring them through this situation.

I meant... was this actually abuse against a child, or was it an underaged girlfriend?

The girl is 7, he's 17, so this is child rape if convicted.

If found guilty, he would qualify for chemical castration, along with 25-life.

That is sick. Let's all say a Hail Mary for the 'life' in 25-life.

Chemical castration would work if sexual crimes and abuses were all about sex. Sadly, they are more about control and power trips, so these sadists use other techniques to continue their abuse.

Let's also pray this doesn't get the 'Iota Treatment' like everything else that happens here.

IN THE NAME OF OUR LORD, PLEASE, STOP ALL THE TOPIX CONVERSATION ABOUT THIS SAD SITUATION. IT HURTS EVERY MEMBER OF THE FAMILIES. EVERYONE NEEDS OUR SUPPORT IN PRAYER INSTEAD OF TOPIX TOPIX. THE LAW HAS IT IN HAND AND WILL ACT ACCORDINGLY AND OUR LORD WILL LOOK UPON ALL WHO WERE HURT.
PLEASE THINK ABOUT THIS.
GOD BLESS.

You're right and I am sorry for being insensitive. As I noted before, I thought it was just a girlfriend who was a bit younger than him. The fact that it was a baby shocked and sickened me.

I could not imagine what I'd do if I found out my child were abused, or an abuser. I have been praying daily for both families.

The thought of my sweet friend doing such a thing as this makes me very sad. You people need to mind your own buisiness and leave this family's problems alone. I pray for all of them and pray god will help them through this difficult time.

Sweet friend?

Your "sweet" friend could possibly be a convicted child rapist. Sweet is not what comes to mind.

But you're right. This is tragic on the family, though the one I feel the most sympathy for is the VICTIM, and her parents who will now have to devote their lives to helping her through this nightmare.

"Both families need all the prayers that we can give them. Remember this young boy is a child and we do not know what has gone on his past life that led to this incident. Incidents of this type do not just occur with out having a feeder adult for this young man. It is very difficult for both families as it is always. And, believe me these types of incidents occur more times than not because of exposure by activities done to them by OTHER PEOPLE outside of the circle of the FAMILY. How often are families are not alerted exposure to young people who are friends, etc outside of the family. But, be sure God is with both families.
For starters, people need to stop talking about this incident because it does hurt both sides.

Remember our Major source of comfort and forgiving comes from Our Almighty God. He is the one we need to turn to when we are in need of comfort. This young man is facing a most difficult future, that may have be damaged by source a source that taught him to act out in this way.
The little girl has a better chance of over coming this incident because she has so many people supporting her and she can talk about it to over come her exposure to this incident.
The young man has very few people on his side simply because the nature of the incident. People dislike him, hate him or simply disgusted with him. But, what he needs now is a little understanding for the events in his life that lead him to his actions. And, I repeat in this day and age we have no idea what this "CHILD" went through in his earlier life that led him down this road. Children are exposed to more this day and age and many come to trust the very people who can be the source of their wrong doings.

So in the end, again let us pray for all the family. They need our prays to heal and overcome their disappointed and anger caused my many sources.

God Bless All of You and Keep Him in You in His Loving Care.

Sorry, the suspect is not simply a child. At 17, he is old enough to know that child rape is wrong, should and will be tried as an adult.

There are plenty of criminals who have "rough pasts". That doesn't excuse criminal activity, especially not on the level of rape and murder.

Proud Bulldog, I am very much aware of the young man's age and I know perfectly where the "young man" is headed. I never said anything about trying to take the law in my hands or anything else.
And, I did not say that he did not know what he was doing; BUT, what I was asking is to keep both families in your prayers, because both families and all the members of the family need our prayers and support.
I just ask that we pray for both children of God. I have no idea what the future is for the young man and neither the little girl, but it absolutely necessary that we keep both in our prayers as well as their family, they need our support and the support of Our Lord.
If you know both families well enough as I do, you know that this has to be one of the most challenging event in their lives. Loving both "children of the family". Who do you take sides with? Of course, we all know that the little girl needs our prayers, but the young man needs it also.
Again, events in a person's life can change a person and his manner of think drastically.
Again, remember what Jesus said seconds before he died on the cross "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do?" Even when we are doing wrong and we know it, the second after it occurs God is ready to forgive us if we are sorry for our sins.
Again, we don't know what influenced "this child of God" to do what he did.
God Bless

This is sick and he deserves a harse punishment. I feel so sorry for the person he did that to. No her whole life that will be in her head. Can't believe that would happen in a great town like IOTA.

How would u feel, CRAIG, if your daughter had been raped and/or molested? In familiar (safe) surroundings? By a trusted family member? Who is then let loose on $15,000 bond? For violating your innocent 7-yr-old baby girl!?!?!? Just days after you buried a parent (from what I hear)? And you walked in on it?????? Or is that sort of thing OK in your circle?

Get a grip! I respect the child and her family, but something needs to be done. My heart aches for that child and her parents.

I don't know what the answer is, but I sure in heck hope someone out there does. This shold not go unpunished, or unacknowledged, for that matter!

I am galled that Iota PD handled the incident despite the fact that the family's involvement with the PD shows a serious conflict of interest.

I am livid that people who write bad checks get a higher bond than $15K!

I am sickened by the idea that the court system will try to get the parents to let this die a quiet death in order to "protect the child from any further trauma." At least, I think that is the wording they use.

Tell me CRAIG, how would you prefer this be handled if it were YOUR child? Your niece? Your baby sister?

I was curious and leaning towards his defense when I thought it was a "girlfriend". I think he should be force-fed his own genetalia (without the benefit of anesthesia while they are being removed) now that I know it was a child.

If that's just mess-making,*averting my glaze, as I am not worthy of making eye contact* I beg his highness' pardon. So sorry to have offended thee.

I'm with you, JM. He should be tried as an adult and punished to the fullest extent of the law.

17 yrs. old raping a 7 yr. old...and it supposedly happened once or twice while he was 16 and she was 6 or 7.

In Louisiana, for aggrivated rape and murder, the criminal can be tried as an adult at 15 or 16.

Just Me......nowhere in my post did I say that "nothing" needed to be done. So don't tell me to get a grip!!!
Go back and read what KINDNESS posted. QUIT appologizing for being "insensitive", because that is your biggest asset.
After keeping up with your posts a while, here is what I think about you: You are an "overweight" woman, who's husband "divorced" you for another woman and you are just full of hate. Tell me if that is right!! Do you have 2 daughters? Work at the school?
Don't get on here and ask for "follow up" information, then make statements saying it isn't being handled right. Either you know whats going on or you don't.
You ask how I would want it handled if it were me? I would want it handled exactly the way it is being handled, by the LAW. And I sure as hell wouldn't want you or your meaningless post's involved or anyone elses.
I know I DON'T, and I am sure the FAMILIES involved don't really give a shit what you think either. Why can't you just leave things alone. Nevermind, it is because you can hide behind a computer screen and do it huh "HB"?
Just remember, one day YOU or YOUR family may be on the other side, and WE will use you and your family for "entertainment" purposes like you use everyone else on here.

1st--Your name shoulda been Richard,*winks and blown kisses* cuz Dick fits you so much better than Craig, although they are becoming synonymous.(That means: They are beginning to take on the same meaning.)

2nd--I don't apologize often or lightly, so take it seriously when I do.

3rd-I am neither divorced (yet anyway) nor the mother of 2 girls. Fat? You'd probably think so.

4th--(and certainly most important)--I would never comsider child abuse "entertainment". That would be sinister even for me.

BTW, I find it quite intruiging that you find me so infatuating. That makes me curious, to say the least. Meow!
