I just wanted to add a note , as an ex-Camden resident....Camden has some beautiful roots. There was a time when Camden was a beautiful , family place to live. Generations of my family grew up there. I know that things have changed , but I know there are still good people there , just trying to live their lives the best they can. This family is just trying to do that. Be happy for them and the changes their children may make for Camden some day. One person , one family at a time , maybe some of the old Camden will be seen again.

Dont ppl get it? Anyone watch the episode with the Higgins kids that were orphaned, another family took them in...when lo and behold we all find out later that the Samoan family is getting their asses sued by the Higgins kids because the family that got a mortgage free new home evicted the orphaned kids and made their lives miserable...liar liar pants on fire....anyone that uses another family like this for their own greed needs more than a swift kick in the nugget sack

Unless all the facts are known, why not be happy for the family? Jealousy and speculation only causes rumors, hate and miscontent. I don't know the family involved, and who am I to judge? If these people deserve to have the "Makeover", then good for them and they will be happy in their new home. Let them enjoy it. But if they did lie and swindle their way to get it.....think this: They are the ones who have to look at themselves and others each and every day KNOWING that they did something wrong. Sooner or later, it will come back and bite them in the bum. What goes around does come around

All the haters need to chill out. I been in the house a month before the show aired and the house is still in good condition like new!!!! Billy Joel, ethan, josh, Steven and jonas are all y cuzins. Yes they were poor and needed this blessing and they are very thankful. So why are these people on this site so negative if you don't know the marrero family DONT judge them it none of ur business how Billy Joel got the watch on his arm but if u really want to know it was donated to him by the local jewler!!! So if u don't know don't talk this family went from nothing to sumthing. And the person who posted "paint don't cost that much last time I checked" why paint a damn house that don't have walls ???? And if they don't have enough money to have heat and electricity how da he'll r they gonna have money to buy paint!!!!??????

Well god don't like ugly and that's what the people that are hating are!!!

For the people who appreciate what the marrero got I bow to you and thank you from myself and from the MARRERO family

Oh and yes I lived in Camden for 16 years and it is bad and there are alot of single fathers and that is why my uncle Victor Marrero came up with the group named "Single father of Camden" visit the web site at singlefathersofcamden.org

I am just stating the facts that this family had 3 people above the age of 17 that could have worked a little bit to fix up there old house. How did that old house get that way? How did the holes in the wall show up? Why didn't the two older sons who were 18 go to work to help out their disabled father? Also, during the press conference the next day how did Billy Joe afford an expensive watch on his wrist and all the tattoo's you see on his arm?

This was the first show that Extreme Makeover did that left me disappointed. There are so many other families in Camden that needed a house over their head. Families with much younger children living in the local homeless shelter. I live in S. Jersey and know families that live there. Single mother's with 2-3 children that do not have a place to call home. ABC found this family from the 20/20 special. They knew 20/20 got phenomenal ratings from that episode and wanted to follow in the ratings. I just feel they should have done a little more research and picked a better family. <quote text>

I ca'nt stand how she speaks about this family. Maybe the reason why their home had holes in it was that it may have been there before, it may have been there when they first moved in. Some homes actually come like that because thats what they could afford at the time. The older boys who worked, probly had bills to pay. Leave some money to the side for themselves and some to help their father. The tattoos Billy have probably were done by a friend who didn't charge much, or even that was some money he had on the side for himself.

I personally don't understand how some people dont really consider these things. I consider these things because I have someone very close to me that has gone through what they've gone through even worse. It's really sad how some people think.

Seriously! Something good happens for once and people get angry because of it! I've been to to country where seeing houses made out of sticks bags and thin bits of rusted tin for a roof, and believe me no one seems to give a shit because the sight of poverty is so normal to see. Sure there are small organizations that try to help but nothing quite like this show.

And for all the rumors about Victor drinking, come on! Adults need some form of trying to stay together. What's the harm in a beer every once in a while. He obviously isn't a drunk and doesn't hit his kids, but is a responsible drinker. He's a human being too, I'm not promoting drinking or anything but it's just one of those things people do when they've had a REALLY rough day. My uncle smokes but that doesn't make him some drug addict! I don't know why people make such a big deal about it.

He's a single father who didn't give up on his kids, he didn't abandon them and left them to fend for themselves, he didn't be one of those parents who just gives their kids a place to stay and pretty much gives off the atmosphere of "Don't bug me, do things on your own, I don't give a shit about what you do, go and die for all I care..." NO! He loved and protected his sons and taught them right from wrong and to help others in any way they can, even if what they have isn't much, it's still something to give and to pass on to other people who need it just as much or more than they do. Yes, I've seen poorer families than the Marrero's but this is a guy who helps other single dads as well.

Sure the kids can get jobs but don't you think if the city is really poor there'd be a lot of job openings that actually paid enough for them to have some sort of heating at least. As for the paint cans, they might have been there for years, my dad still has pain cans from over five years ago. Any job they get would probably pay minimum wage from $3-8, add in their school, time helping their father, rising costs, and the beginning of a bad economy = hard to find a job to that can barely pay the rent.

People can hate all they want, there are always going to be some haters out there who wished they had been chosen instead, but the show is about helping good people in a bad situation who really need it. And in my opinion this family definetely deserved it, I really doubt even 1% of all those people hating could do what Victor had done for his kids. Stop hating and be happy that there is some good in the world.

Your posts are so incredibly, outrageously maddening. What is your "fairy tale" is not Billy Joe's. And why in the world do you feel the need to pass judgment on this person on a random blog online? Get a freaking life.

I agree. College doesn't garentee a good life and Bille Joe has a good example of what a good father should be so I think he'll be alright. College isn't always for everyone and there are plenty of other options besides college. Billie Joe is a good person and I just have a feeling he'll be alright. Why not try preaching to the drug addict who abuses children instead?

No one hates this man nor his family for getting a new house. And no one is or was angry that they got it.

The problem is that after they got it (along with over 60 thousand dollars to help with the maintaince costs) they are broke and can't even pay their utility bills.

They were given an oppertunity of a lifetime and they are now complaining that they can't afford it. Five men in the house and they can't pay their utility bills because they have no income?????? GET REAL!

The father even tried to put the house on the market knowing that it was not part of the deal. The land their house sits on was donated and if the house is sold, the organization which donated the land gets first bid at the property and gets their fair share because they still own the land.
Once the father realized that he could not sell the house and keep the money, he took it off the market.

for MAD HATER..why would you think it would be robbed..because it is not in cherry hill, morristown, medford, voorhees, etc.? they rob every where...and if you were following the story it is not in camden it is pennsauken..just be happy for the family....be happy that someone was blessed with a new home and that his children were blessed with educations.....
Yes, it's in Pennsauken. On Federal Street, one block into Pennsauken (or one block out of Camden, which ever you prefer.) Why would it be robbed, it only surrounded by slums. I drove by and looked at it. Lovely house surrounded by slums.

Here's a thought. Instead of wasting negative energy on criticizing each other, the family, and residents of Camden, Why don't you all turn it into positive energy and go HELP all the other people that live in such squalor. It's sickening to see how people turn a blind eye to inner cities or only cite how much poverty there is when it suits them. It takes a village to raise a child and it will take communities to turn around neighborhoods.

Daily Horoscope for December 28

Capricorn

This is a marvellous day for having a discreet word in someone's ear. You'll be able to choose your words carefully, making you very tactful and considerate, and as a result you will have a helpful conversation. This is also a good opportunity to talk about topics that are very dear to your heart, or which are usually too private to mention.
