When I was a kid, that type of decision was made by parents, not schools.

Here in NJ, a lot of the school districts are starting to implement rules like this. No cupcakes on birthdays, no candy on Halloween, etc. This is only in the last couple of years. It's kind of sad, really.

We should teach our children moderation instead of telling them they can't have sweets at all.

I think kids should be able to share a sweet with the class, but only if there birthday is in the school year, and on a school day.
