I am a young African American woman who recently bought a used vehicle from Dobbs Ford @ Mt. Moriah. I was told over the phone that they had a 2001 Used Ford Taurus for 7700.00. I told the guy what my credit score was and he said he could work with me and that I had 1000.00 to put down. When I made it, he pulled my credit (and assured me he would only pull it once) and stated all was well. We went on the car lot to look at the car. However, he kept trying to get me to buy a car that was twice as much. I turned him down and purchased the Taurus. I got a horrible interest rate and to make matters worse, the finance company nor the finance manager would not tell me how much each took in interest. I found out that the finance company will take their interest and leave a "window" where the dealership can charge "additional" interest for bringing them the business. I could not believe it. The finance manager was James Woodbury. I got swindled to say the least. Also, my credit had 15 hits on it in less than 1 minute. He later explained that they made no money from people (mostly whites) who came in with checks from Credit Unions or Banks, so they had to swindle the poor to make ends meet. Thankfully, the car was wrecked less than 3 weeks later and my insurance totalled it and paid it off. I will never purchase another car from Dobbs Ford @ Mt. Moriah again. No Blacks Should.

SO WHO PUT THE GUN TO YOUR HEAD TO BUY THE CAR--I WOULD GET A POLICE REPORT ON WHOEVER IT WAS THAT FORCED YOU TO BUY A HUNK OF CRAP CAR--THE THING TO DO BEFORE YOU SIGN IS READ THE CONTRACT. READING IS SOMETHING YOU DO BLACK OR WHITE. BUT THE POLICE SHOULD BE ABLEE TO HELP YOU ON THE FORCED SIGNATURE ON YOUR BUYERS CONTRACT.

Wow, guess what, all car dealerships will try to get you if they can. It's how they Make money. If you had a decent credit report or even a good working relation with a bank or credit union, they would have given you a loan to buy the car without hassiling with the dealers finance. You should be thanking them anyway. Since you took a loan out and paid it off it will improve your credit score, so maybe nextime you get a better rate. That is how credit works. And the statement that they don't make money to people who bring checks from credit unions and banks is semi truthfull. Because these people have already gotten Loans from the bank in full for the car and they can haggle on the price and get a better deal. By the way how did you total out your car. If it was your fault you should probably not be driving anyway.

I moved here a few years ago, I have witnessed one thing in Memphis that I have never seen anywhere else, a young woman driving with two mobile phones glued to her head and very involved in her conversations. Please don't let driving interfere with your phone business. Nope can't let the conversation lapse. Tell it to the people that are left in the car wreck caused by dodging the stupid fool in the car with the veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyy important phone call. Hey Tennesssee, when are you going to pass laws like other states to make these idiots wake up to the responsibilty of letting some of us get home alive? What box of cheerios do most you get your drivers license out of Memphis?

Funny that this turned into a race thing.....I am a young African American woman who has been in Memphis most of my life. I can say that that race card needs to be put away because it is being played entirely too much.
You should have first ran really fast when you located someone actually trying to sell an 01 Ford Taurus in 06 for almost $8000.00!!! That's ridiculous. Then check various sources...banks, credit unions and the dealership for whatever financing loans and specials that they have. Pick the best....especially if you have bad credit you should shop around and not just take the first thing someone offers.
I recently purchased a brand new VW Passat and my bank and credit union offered me loans at 4.9%, but the dealership offered me a loan at 1.9%...so that credit union/ bank thing isn't always in your favor.
All I can say for sure is that BLACK PEOPLE need to wise up and do a little bit more research before yelling racism. It's DUMB to call this a race issue!

It boils down to this...blacks are using the racism excuse anywhere they can in hopes of getting SOMETHING FOR NOTHING!!

Maybe she did use the race and probably shouldnt have but some of you are b!tching a little too much about it I see plenty of whites that do things in a similiar way , and maybe , just maybe if some whites in the South were not so racist I would be inclined to agree with the points stated by you .

It seems some whites here are just using this posting as an excuse to spew their hatred towards blacks

Stop whining and using the race card. Instead of making up something to complain about, face the real issues.

Not all play the race card and not all are bigots. I go with facts and statistics. Obviously, neither of those are wrong.

They do this to white people as well. It's about your credit not your color. Next time find your own financing first, then buy the car. You'll get a better deal on the car and a better interest rate.
