'Shared sacrifice' starts at the top

March 30, 2011
Our State Representative has a very good idea when it comes to the "shared sacrifice" we're all hearing so much about. Rep. Kevin Daley has long believed the lifetime health benefits enjoyed by state legislators is a luxury the state cannot afford. We agree.

As Governor Rick Snyder and the Legislature draft bill after bill slashing funding for education and local municipalities, and asking state employees to contribute 20 percent toward their health care benefits, lawmakers continue to enjoy lifetime health care coverage after just six years of work and age 55.

This benefit has created hefty legacy costs for the state, and is bestowed on lawmakers whose salaries are among the top in the nation. The retirement health care plan places a huge burden on the budget, and is clearly out of step with any notion of "shared sacrifice."

In addition, while legislation has been introduced to require state employees contribute 20 percent toward the cost of health care benefits, the Legislature itself has made no such move to require they do the same.

For many Michiganders the sacrifice has been deep and long and it's understood that sweeping changes are required if the state is ever to rebound. Those same residents also understand that words like "shared sacrifice" mean nothing if things don't change at the top.

Mike, doesn't all of the consolidation of services and communities concern you..It scares the begeezers out of me..I'm thinking there will be way too much power at the top of all of this...Since I think things are going to get much worse..I'm really worried...Not to mention all the job loss involved..

SOOOOOOOOOO!!! How many of our lovely neighbors are going to start paying attention to what is going on in not only in our little peace of earth (play on words here Lol) but the state and the rest of the country. We have some of the most critical issues EVER TO FACE THIS GREAT NATION!!!! The change that we were promised in 2008 did not pan out, which I knew that they would not, no crystal ball, just saying I been Studying politics for 40 years and know when somebody is full of it.When you jump for joy, beware that no one moves the ground from beneath your feet. Those who expect moments of change to be comfortable and free of conflict have not learned their history.UNTIL NEXT TIME.GET OFF YOUR DUFF AND DO SOMETHING EVEN IF ITS WRONG LOL

As a Precinct Delegate I just report the facts and report on issues between the voters and the politicians. With party executive meetings, committee meetings, TEA party meetings, Friends of Capac Library, Chamber of Commerce and Village/Township meetings I’m spread pretty thin right now. Surely I don’t make them all. Also, the 2012 candidates/campaigns and more meetings will keep me busy for some time. But, reading topix’s, facebook and emails you’ll see I work 24/7 (somebody stop me). However, I would be available to hold mini town halls and discuss the issues and help plan solutions. I could also invite guest speakers to elaborate on the issues. I have a couple of locations depending on the size of the group where we can meet. At this point I am a helper/supporter and just need someone to step up to the plate.
You are not alone out there. You’ll see as soon as you get started the others will be there too.

It is only a matter of time before the people being squeezed by big government, both sides of the isle; take to the streets and demand back the rule of law in this country like its going down around the world today. Ron Paul wants to lower taxs on the top 1% of the countrys wealthy down to 25% while taking away from the middle class and poor. Your local taxs will continue to go up while the wealthy pay little if any. GE, one of the largest companies in the world paid ZERO tax in 2010! GE paid its tax in the form of political contributions to get your government to cut its taxs. Wake up America, the rule of law only applies to the wealthy now. Until we take to the streets and peacefully assemble and cry aloud that we want out liberty back from these theives we call government, sit back and be abused. Meanwhile, your going to see desperate acts of violence, hopelessness, people whose lives are so miserable they do not care if they die and violence, substance abuse, crime, and the ills of an oppressed majority will prevade your communities. We are owned by China. If we close the incenitive to ward off China from attacking us we face a 3rd world war and your greedy governemnt from both sides of the isle know it. We the people need to arise and confront our government like the rest of the word is starting to do. I am not talking about overthrowing any government, I am talking about confronting and making the governemnt accountable to all of us equally. If you have to pay income tax, so too should the top 1% or wealthy. GE paid ZERO income tax in 2010 because GE and the Major Oil Companies of the word pay for your policial process and in exchange they, not your governemnt make the rule of law that suits their own interssts one the backs of the middle class and poor. We are on the verge of a CIVIL WAR here in America mark my words. Hopefully we'll find that our government wont try to ward it off with military response and its important that we protect peacefully. We cant take this country back with our vote because both sides of the isle is bought and paid for by the wealthiest coperations of the world. We have to speak through assembly now.

THink About it!

Hello Mr.Brad, I suppose 555 is your middle name? I rest my case, just look at your less than intelligent post. You belong right in there with the Capac crazies. Nice little hole made just for the likes of you!!!! Knock yourself out, you just might even be able to drum up five votes if you carpool from the bar to the voting station if the church will let you through the doors. Consider a round of coffee first though!

Daily Horoscope for May 22

Virgo

Keep a pinch of salt handy today because not everything you hear will be the gospel truth. Someone might have manipulated the facts to make them sound more acceptable, or they may have got carried away and forgotten to tell you something rather vital. Try to keep misunderstandings to a minimum by being as straightforward and honest as possible, and by not simply assuming that people know what you're talking about and therefore not bothering to explain properly.
