Get ready to pay more for health coverage

Full story: www.msnbc.msn.com

With annual “open enrollment” season approaching for choosing health care options, get ready to pay more. No matter what happens with national health care reform, employers already are shifting part of the rising cost of care to employees.

My company's health care plan is already cutting coverage and raising deductibles. This year our costs have gone up almost every month. The company health plan has laid off personnel and they don't even answer the phone but 4 days a week, 6 hours a day.
obama's new health care plan has employers scared and already cutting costs.

During the presidential campaign, Barack Obama made repeated trips to rust belt states like Michigan to assure workers that a vote for him was a vote for job security. When he reneged on that promise within three months of winning the election by making General Motors a ward of the state, auto workers were understandably vexed.

So what did President Obama do to quell the unrest?

He went back to Michigan and made a speech, explaining how it could have been worse.

"We saw 400,000 jobs lost in the auto industry in the year before this restructuring even began. I will not pretend the hard times are over. Difficult days lie ahead. More jobs will be lost. More plants will close. More dealerships will shut their doors, and so will many parts suppliers."

Then he said this:“I want you to know that what you’re doing is making a sacrifice for the next generation.”

Phuque them. I'm dumping my company health insurance Nov 1st and going to go back to my V.A. coverage, and a 40% medical/optical/dental discount plan I get through my bank for only $5 a month (usually $40 a month, but I'm grandfathered because I started getting it in 1995 when I opened my bank account and it was offered cheap).

My employer is jacking up my cost up to $430 a month ... for a single, healthy man with no chronic or historical health issues? BULLLLLLLLSHIIIIIIIIT!!!!

This is WHY wee need a Universal Public Option!!!

Without such a program, the cost is going to be shifted to the public ANYWAY!!!

Employers can no longer afford to pay for the health insurance of their employees. Workers everywhere are feeling the pinch.

Not only would a Universal program cover ALL Americans, but it would take a HUGE burden off of US Small & Medium sized businesses.

Corporations are leaving the USA and moving to Canada because they don't have to pay for individual health care there....

When will the public wake up from their commercial brainwashing?

It's because Conservative idiotic morons are preventing him from doing REAL good..... When Bush passed billions for banks and auto executives, they cheered... But when Obama wanted to pass a bailout for the working class, construction firms, and teachers.... They cried that he is spending too much!

Conservatives don't realize how they are brainwashed by international bankers who fund commercials on major news networks that repeat the same garbage: Pro-Corporation is Anti-American Citizen

Those corporations are multi-national... they are not US companies.

Do the research... Look at the shareholders and owners of your favorite news media conglomerations and THAT will tell you who is behind the scheme.

Just look at how they actively defend insurance companies!

Of course prices are going up and why shouldn't they?

All the insurance companies are money handlers:
deciding who gets charged what, paying the doctors, clinics, labs and hospitals when they damn well please.

It sounds similar to the oil cartels.

But, Hey! These are capitalist American companies so it is ok. All in the name of making a buck off your back.

Can you spell A-N-T-I-T-R-U-S-T?

The insurance companies do this BECAUSE THEY CAN.
If you think that insurance companies (note that they are not the same as a health care provider) have your best interests at heart
you are badly mistaken.

I totally agree with you that all the costs are going to be pushed onto the public. We would be better off with Universal Care, where EVERYONE pays something and everyone gets care. A payroll deduction only penalizes the worker. A sales tax, however, would guarantee that everyone contributes something. No insurance to buy, no insurance companies to profit off of illness, all monies go directly into HEALTHCARE. The government it making this WAY TOO complicated. We are tired of getting robbed and getting VERY LITTLE in return for our premiums. Universal Care is the ONLY way to go.

If you think problems are bad now, just wait until Obamacare is initiated. VAT...value Added Tax on EVERYTHING you purchase, diluted care, delayed appointments, refusal to administer medical tests because they aren't inline with the government matrix, age discrimination, superior care for congress; inferior care for the rest of us.

Obama=debt forever

Vote out democrats, balance government. Your freedoms are at risk, do not allow government to dictate what you drink, eat, weight, travel. It's coming, thanks to Obama. What a goon.

8% more for me, to be exact. at my company we have to pay 8% more toward the purchase of our health care than we did last year....all so that the illegal baby mills can come here and drain our system dry and the insurance companies can become the biggest profit makers in the country. they don't pay for anything and they send most of their pay back to their homeland to support their family and economy. just go to a hospital and see who pays and who doesn't. they're the ones that need to start paying, not the American on the unemployment line who worked all his life, payed into the system all their lives and got layed off because a bunch of greedy low-lives created a global economic crisis.

national health care, my azz...it's become international health care!

The government knows that providing unlimited health care to the entire public would cost cost trillions of dollars that no kind of taxes could possibly raise. That's why they want private insurance to remain. Private insurance is quite good at limiting costs by requiring co-pays, deductibles, exclusions, dollar caps, and a laundry list of other controls. The fact that insurance companies can now exclude high risk patients like chronic drug addicts, AIDS patients, obese smokers, and others is the biggest way to control costs. The government can't afford to grant unlimited coverage and endure national bankruptcy.

In Washington, The Revolving Door Is Hazardous to Your Health
October 10, 2009 / http://tinyurl.com/ylx7kp6
On Tuesday, October 13, the Senate Finance Committee finally is scheduled to vote on its version of health care insurance reform. And therein lies yet another story in the endless saga of money and politics.
In most polls, the majority of Americans favor a non-profit alternative -- like Medicare -- that would give the private health industry some competition. So if so many of us, including President Obama himself, want that public option, how come we're not getting one?
Because the medicine that could cure our healthcare nightmare has been poisoned from Day One -- fatally adulterated, thanks to the infamous, Washington revolving door. Movers and shakers rotate between government and the private sector at a speed so dizzying they forget for whom they're supposed to be working.
If you've been watching the Senate Finance Committee's markup sessions, maybe you've noticed a woman sitting behind Committee Chairman Max Baucus. Her name is Liz Fowler.
Fowler used to work for Wellpoint, the largest health insurer in the country. She was its vice president of public policy. Baucus' office failed to mention this in the press release announcing her appointment as senior counsel in February 2008, even though it went on at length about her expertise in "health care policy."
Now she's working for the very committee with the most power to give her old company and the entire industry exactly what they want -- higher profits -- and no competition from alternative non-profit coverage that could lower costs and premiums.

Thank you ... those are very good points. But, who ends up paying for those in the exclusion group (addicts, AIDS, etc.)?? We need to find a way to get the uninsured to PAY SOMETHING, instead of leaving it to the general public to pick up their tab. Perhaps the public option is getting to look better.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Virgo

Mercury is turning retrograde at just the right time, because it's telling you to consider the validity of your long-term aims and aspirations. If they stand about as much chance of seeing the light of day as you do of winning the Lottery, then you need to streamline them or even abandon them and start again. So think about what you want from life and how you're going to get it. Children and romance may be quite erratic during this phase.
