I lived in Vernon for about two years. IT SUCKS. nothing to do.no bars.no clubs.nothing. if you like sitting at home then go for it.

I love Vernon, Wilbarger County, Texas. Just like everywhere else nothing to do. But if you like driving around there is much history to the Vernon, Texas area. It was a groovy place in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and even now. I have tons of pictures of family in Vernon, Texas. Seriously, Vernon, Texas, is my dream town.

I have been gone for 16yrs, on and off! went back to see family! Just got back last week to see family.Last visted before last week was 2006 of March..Its quiet and layed back.Its been so long! It was nice to see the sunset and sunrise.and flat land.Its not like the city!I am always on the run here!You will like it! Just dont share something ,you dont want the whole town to know and you will be fine!

Vernon has a bad reputation for racial violence and injustice.

Alice, with whom does Vernon have this reputation? What injustices are you talking about?

I would like to know those kinds of things about my own town!

alice, dont talk about what you dont know. We have almost no racial violence or injustice. People like you who know nothing about the area, history, or traditions make me sick! Dont Believe everything you see in ads on the internet!

I'll say this again, that Vernon, Texas, is one of the best towns in the world. If anyone ever needed to get away from the rat race this is the place to come and put your feet in the dirt and sip Southern Lemonade.

If someone speaks ill of Vernon, Texas, then maybe it was an outsider who never fit in at all with the local population.

I mean if you're from the Northerner USA states then perhaps cleaning up a born with nasty attitude will get you nowhere with Southern friendly people.

I've seen plenty of Northerner people who never could calm down and sniff the air or take a lawn chair to vacant field and mellow out!!

I agree with Alice! Yes I am from a Texas city, born and raised lived in vernon for 21 years and have experienced for my own self the injustice from the Vernon court systems as well as the racial discrimination! I can appreciate the warmth of a small home town, but I can deffinetly say that Vernon is only so to ppl who are from old family money that's passed down to the next generation. Everyone else is pretty much screwed. So pretty much if you're kinned to family in the court house, or the police, or even law firm offices you have it MADE! I've seen enough of what goes down in that town. I am an eye witness, not someone speaking from newspaper articles from a distance. I've been a victim of Vernon and that is why I no longer reside there. So those of you who disagree with my opinion, must be kin to someone in the court house, police station or know someone in high rank there in order to get away with things that you think that are right, or you're just simply F'n blind. Oh, one more thing, I've seen many cases of hispanics and blacks sent away for minor stuff and I've seen plenty of white ppl who've done major stuff and walked right out of court house with a big smile. So if you decide to make vernon your new home, please really, really do your homework and speak to a minority and I will assure you, you will most likely get the same response I've given now.
