Didn't you learn the first time? How many times do you have to be pulled over before you realize the law?

I have recently moved to Medina, Ohio and feel picked on and very annoyed with the Medina Police Department. My line of work involves driving 250-300 miles a day throughout North East Ohio. I have never been pulled over and ticketed for not having a front plate on my vehicles. I never even knew that this was a state law which is punishable by a hefty fine.
After moving to Medina I quickly became aware that this was a law. I was first pulled over and given a fair warning. A week later pulled over again by the same officer and ticketed. 3 Weeks later I was driving my other vehicle on RT18 going 23mph in a 25mph zone when I was pulled over a 3rd time by once again Officer W. This time I was driving another vehicle with no front plate; requiring drilled holes in the front factory bumper in order to have a front plate. Once again another ticket.
Im sorry I find this ludicrous. Im certainly not one to break the law, bash on someone protecting civilians, but this is abuse. I have since placed plates on my cars and have found this same Officer W. follow me home to my driveway and around town. What does everyone here think about this?

I live near Dayton Ohio and I took my front plate off for better flow for my inner cooler, almost 9 years ago never had an issue until this past year got pulled over 3 times the first time I did not have one I got a warning, and the officer told me to at least put it in my window I thought the law was so dumb! I quit driving threw that town and never got pulled over for it again then I went threw the town a couple months ago and got pulled over by the same dumb cop and I had the plate in my window as he stated was okay, got ticketed 250$ I took the officer to court and won. The law is bogas. I guess they figure the more little things they can pull someone over for they may eventually hit the jackpot and catch a person who has really broken the law. It's ugly and for the newer cars that don't even have a place to put a plate annoying. So freaking dumb.

I just got ticket for not having a license plate on the front of my 96 Honda civic, I now have a fine of $160 and this will go on my record unless I take a driving safety course....about another $40ish....so for a grand total of $200+. This is ridiculous.

I was just cited today for this. The fine is $125 dollars. No warning or fix it warning, just gave me a ticket.

I just got pulled over today didn't know about the front plate law until today. I just love how Newburgh Hts can pull you over for some dumb crap like this, yet the police will watch people fly down the Blvd about 50mph and do nothing. By the way the Blvd is a 25mph zone with a park and a school along the route. And the cops didn't do crap either when a group of kids went down the street and were giving my dad a hard time. We called the police and they just told the kids to stay away, but yet they have time to be picky about some little crap like a front plate. Gimmie a FN break.

Several one plate states have told me they have no problem with solving vehicle thefts or other crimes with having access to one license plate. "Needing" two tags is just an excuse.

I've been coasting through stop signs, running red lights, speeding, not renewing my registration, and breaking the law for years and yesterday I just got my first ticket! It isn't FAIR! I've been breaking the law for years and getting away with it, so why should I get in trouble now? Wah! Doesn't the fact I've been getting away with something for years suddenly make it legal? They have to catch me doing something the first time I do it or else it's automatically legal forever! If every police officer I pass doesn't pull me over for something, then it MUST be legal! I have a really cool car and I'm a special little snowflake, so the law shouldn't apply to me! Wah! I should be able to put fake plates or a phoney plate from Europe or another state on my cool car and drive it on public streets if I want! Me and my car are special! ME!!! MY COOL CAR!!! I have a COOL CAR!!! Nothing is my fault, it's everyone else's fault! My car doesn't have a front license plate bracket, and I'm too stupid to figure out how to get one! I shouldn't be responsible for my own behavior or for obeying the law! I don't know the law even if it's something really obvious, like when the BMV gives me two plates, and the instructions, the BMV web site, and 99% of the other cars on the road tell me that one goes on the front and one goes on the back! I thought one was to hang on my wall for decoration or to carry around INSIDE my car to show the officer if I get stopped, like my driver's license! Even when I get stopped and issued a warning for something, I didn't know it was against the law! I should be able to continue to ignore the thing I got a warning for and never get stopped for it again! Wah! I shouldn't have to obey rules that I don't like! I'm special! Everyone but me is stupid! I have daddy issues! I've never grown past being a rebellious adolescent who hated my parents and therefore by reflex any authority figure! All rules that apply to me are stupid! Wah! Rules are for other people! Society shouldn't have rules, or if they have rules, no one should enforce them! That would be COOL!!! I emote instead of thinking! I base my opinions on compete ignorance of the issues! Don't the police have anything better to do than enforce the laws written by the state legislature? Cops do too much!!! No wait, they do too little!!! Everybody is an idiot but me!!!

The ironic thing is, Germany, as well as every other country in Europe, requires the display of legally obtained front and rear license plates on cars on public streets or highways. They are strict about enforcing it, you won't pass the mandatory vehicle inspections without it, and the fines are quite high, as much as 1000, or so I've heard and read. You certainly would not be able to get away with having a German plate on the back and a US plate on the front. Why would someone want to do such a thing? Vanity?

Sounds like Medina has one or two real jerks in their police department! Perhaps you should talk to the police chief, and if that fails, see a lawyer about pressing charges for police harassment! The cop is probably some left over high school bully who could not become a state trooper...

I drive a durango, and been driving it with one back plate for the pass 4 or 5 years passing cops left and right until now when a cop gave me a warning for it, then a ticket. But what had me upset about it was that no one every told me it was a law and plus the real reason he was pulling me over was because he thought I had something to do with of wich some kind of conflict had happen in an apartment complex of which I dont even live in. And ended up pulling me over almost 3 to 5 miles down
Yeah, as a witness I regularly run out in front of a car to get the plate #!! Really, there is no reason substantiated by law enforcement for the front plate. Most of the reasoning stems from their habit of sitting and watching for familiar plate #s in targeted enforcement; the one that got me in Elyria lost his job when he testified he thought I was my brother who had a suspended license. I was driving my car which was registered in Stark county, my brother is 6'2", I'm 5'8", which explained why he looked at me funny when I got out of the car.

Front bumper laws are stupid because cops don't even use the front plate they use the back an if they do use the front there fucking retarded because I would run them over if they was dumb enough to use it. Front bumper laws need to be lawed out. There's no need for a front bumper plate at all. Give me a good reason you need a front plate for but to use it to ticket people for no reason but to make more money for this failing city Columbus Ohio. This is another reason why I'm moving out of Ohio because of stupid petty laws an law makers that make America look bad. I mean come on. What the hell do u need a front bumper plate for really. If your not smart enough to figure out how to make money. Then we need to rethink alot of stuff in our country. WE THE PEOPLE!!!!!!

Cleveland cops pulled me over and slapped me with a $150 dollar ticket for no front plate. I just bought a 88 vw gti and they expect me to drill holes in my bumper? Yeah right. I will velcro or zip tie it before anything.
