Police Probe School Finances

This is a really great thing! The investigation will, I hope, uncover the truth, and put an end to any rumors. It can only benefit the town and the schools to know what is really going on!

I also have great hopes for the investigation to lay to rest the rumors. I only wish that the Town's finances were included in the investigation. Then we would have a clean sweep.

Finally, a school board that we can actually trust. We are very, very fortunate to have Tim, Ann and Mike. Thank you citizens of Colonial Beach for overwhelmingly voting them into office. I know the entire town will benefit from this. I understand some tough questions were asked at the School Board meeting on Wednesday evening. It is about time. I think it is time for complete change.
Thank you Tim for standing up for what you believe. I know at times it must have been very difficult for you and your family. It seems all of your efforts have paid off. Keep up the good work.
I hope and pray that the previous school board and
Dr. Howard don't put Colonial Beach on the map, like Michael Vick did Warsaw.

Hopefuly everyone will know what has been going on and we can bury this.

As for TLC, give me a break. Its illegal to make the PTA attend their meetings and the request sound more like a threat!

Has anyone noticed that the school's website has it's budget and financial information online like Mr. Driskell said they would.. yet the Town still has not (even after Mr. Driskell challenged them to)? If the school overspent, why would they put that public (since Trivett says they keep so many secrets!)? And if the town's finances are so right, why haven't they put their's online yet for everyone to see.. some open government, Rummage. Something smells fishy and its not the water!

I really am thrilled about this investigation. There have been questions about school finances for years now-if there is nothing wrong, then we will find out, and hopefully the rumors will be stopped. if something is wrong, then all of us should be happy to have it stopped.
I agree that the same type of scrutiny should be used on the town's finances-but maybe that will come next. This is a step in the right direction!
And I must say, the "L" in TLC is absolutely honest, I am sure of that!

The L is one of the reasons the meeting went on forever. Do your homework before the meeting. After all you get agendas on what the meeting will cover.

It obvious that they are going to make it very difficult for the Rocky & Lyburn. First they go after Rocky's wife then Lyburn's child. Get a life, Lyburn's daughter will be back at school next monthand Rocky's wife was working for the school before he was elected. Nothing illegal there. I wonder who they have waiting in the wings to replace these 2 members? I can see a very rocky road for Rocky & Lyburn. Good Luck Rocky & Lyburn, you'll need it.

Thank goodness someone besides Trivett and Condgon are looking into the finances. They have been trying to get Dr. Howard fired, with rumors and lies. I had hoped Condgon would give up her column when she got on the school board. She signs someone elses name. Trivett and Condgon were the source of the awful E-mail a couple of years ago. Anyone remember that?
If Dr. Howard is guilty she must resign.
If Condgon and Trivett are wrong then they must resign. Mike Looney is just here. He has no clue what is going on. As witnessed.
The architect needs
to be paid. Condgon as a council member voted for the loan, then when they turned the vote around, it was to late.
In order to get the loan, which was approved by council, a plan was required. You cant just walk into a bank and say I want to borrow a million dollars to build a house. The bank is going to want to know what are you building, we need plans.The school addition was the same way. The architect did the plans and he expects to be paid. If you want to blame anyone for this fiasco, go to Condgon and Gunderson, both council members at the time.

This "probe" is a farce. It's frivolous. It's been initiated by a new Board member who sits on the very own Board he's trying to probe. What a waste of taxpayer money and more importantly a waste of resources that could be put towards educating our children. And he wants to make the Board more transparent by eliminating the fees for FOIA requests? This idiot wants to eliminate the fees so that more idiots like him can come in and request copies of hundreds of pages of documents using up and wasting many man hours and school dollars. He'll never have success consolidating the schools but he just might have success draining the school of funds. What a freekin' idiot. Way to go HimTim!

TLC was voted in by voters who do no have children in school. Why in the world would a school board member give up all the attention (Condgon and Trivette live for that) to consolidate the schools. The Mayor is like a comic figure. Just watch him in action. LOL They just keep stirring the pot. Never solving anything. We are a joke in Westmoreland County, they will never consolidate with CB. If you want your kids to go to Westmoreland schools, I am sure they take tutition students.
Call your friends in the County and ask how they feel about consolidation.

this topic is not on school consolidation. However, a wise man once said, those who have nothing to hide, hide nothing. So if there is nothing wrong with the school finances, then we can be happy that the rumors will be stopped!

If you want to talk about tuition, here's a fact for you: with the amount that the CB school board spends each year, they could send every Colonial Beach student to Fredericksburg Christian with money left over.
And I would love for someone to explain to me why Colonial Beach even needs a superintendent. Two schools, two principals and a super that makes more money than Dr. Fogliani (the county county super.) I think Rummage was right on when he said to consolidate the schools. He obviously knows a bad situation when he sees it, and Howard is a bad situation.

Rummage never said "consolidate the schools". He said combine the two superintendent positions into one. It is virtually impossible to combine the two school systems. It doesn't make sense and in order for it to happen five (5) different boards all have to vote majority or super majority. The odds of that happening are huge. Our schools are top heavy with administrators. Of that there is no doubt. The real questions are, do we need them all and for such large sums?

Beenhere.... Thank you for finally stating a fact on this forum. Rummage has not stated that he is for consolidating the schools, but he has questioned the need for one (and in my opinion, a highly overpaid and not accountable) superintendent for only 500 students. I find that a logical argument, although I do recognize the fact that Westmoreland County schools may feel differently. However, I have seen no proof either way on their views...only the biased opinions of those on this site. Change is inevitable in this town across the board, and I can only hope that we as a community can grasp the positive concept of it.

thank you to "thank you"! that is so true-no one is suggesting consolidation, I don't think. I do think it is a way of making people in the town lose their minds and fight change-a strategy Dr. Howard has used so often! no one wants to send all the town kids down to Montross-but as you said, just paying one less administrator would make a huge difference and save so much money! I would love to see the figures on that comparison to Fredericksburg Christian. We need hard cold facts. that will help the kids in the long run!

By having 1 super for both systems, it would essentially be a consolidation of the schools. Yes, they would still have separate sports teams, they would still be the Eagles and the Drifters, but it would be the same as Stafford or Spotsy or any other multi-school system.

While I understand your concept, no, it wouldn't be the same as Stafford or Spotsy or any other multi-school system. Colonial Beach is an incorporated town separate from the County. There are no incorporated towns in Stafford or Spotsylvania counties. Obviously in that case, with there being no other school governmental body besides the County School Board, all of their schools are operated under a county school board. Most cities and towns have their own schools independent from a county. And for purposes of argument, why not fire Westmoreland County Super Dr. Fogliani and make Alice Howard the Super of both divisions? Who said Fogliani is better than Howard? But that's so far fetched anyway. I'm not necessarily trying to defend Howard cause she's not perfect but the "line of thinking" recently has been to eliminate Howard.

duplication of position can be a very big waiste of time and money..........is it a job for one person to handle the town and county at the super level?
