I am an avid collector of old matchboxes and related items, and have been collecting now for over 50 years.I love researching patents and information about old defunkt match companies.
Recently I came across a copy of an article (Life in the mid 1800's - Interview with Henry Stokes (1825-1910))originally published in The Emmitsburg Chronicle of 1908.In it there are several passages about Jacob Weller and his discovery of 'matches'.I have tried to no avail to attach a scan of the related paragraphs.I would be more than happy to send a scan to anyone who would find it of interest. My email address is (strikewright@hotmail.com). Is there anyone out there who could help with more information on J.Wellers factory. It would be great to put together an article for a match collectors club newsletter.I would need help from someone local who has better access to local archives etc. Keeping my fingers crossed. Regards Ed Wright (Ajax, Ontario, Canada.) |
