We need a Sherriff that will stop crime in our county not use the power of the Sherriffs office to cover up the crimes committed by him and his deputies. Johhny Smith is responsible for our higher taxes and most of the crimes commited in our county.

I heard that too.... 1) burning his house.2) stealing county gasoline3) having family on payroll that dont work.4) selling county vehicles to family 5) covering up that his wife had sex with numerous inmates.6) paying her overtime and salary not to work)7)not paying his property taxes).8) running a bonding business and charging bonds to his private bonding business) 9) taking payoff from mexican's.10) Racing in county vehicles with hemi engines.11) making personal profit on inmate store account monies.12) shutting sown the jail so they could rent an office in town trying to get a new jail. 13) Being a real dumb ass !!!!!!!!!!

I heard that there is an attorney from Fitzgerald named Josh Larkey...that is suing Johnny Smith as Sheriff of Telfair County for using excessive force--aka--beating the heck out of several people who were allegedly being arrested.....under color of offical authority....does anyone know about these lawsuits against Telfair County and the Sheriff or have they been "silently settled" and kept quiet for political reasons.....????? Does anyone know about this??? If so please put the details on topix for everyone to read about as public information as it should be.....Citizens have the right to know when an elected official is sued for improper acts....that would increase our property taxes or insurance premiums for the county....and or attorney fees to defend against them....

Do you really think that sheriff dude can properly handle financial matters.???....if he wrote bad checks as a deputy and ran the county budget up so much like everyone say's he did do you really think he can save any money or bury it for future usage.....????.It sounds to me lke it's gone beforte he gets it....just thinkin out loud.....LO

That would insure that we wouldn't get clowns holding public office that couldnt balance a check book.....and that paid their property taxes....as well as had an understanding about the concept of paying property taxes and how to balance a budget and make financial decisions that made sense and not necessarily catered to people wanting to misspend or unbalance the budget...."BUDGET" meaning the amount allocated to operate with....without exceeding the allowance....(DUH)........

The rumor mill says that Johnny Smith is going to put up a Bill Board with his picture on it saying how hard he is on crime. It should be a wanted picture in the post office. That would be more correct.

Give me a break, the ONLY criminals around here who EVER get sentenced are the poor, and/or ignorant ones who enter guilty pleas.If you want to hear it for yourself, Ask a Judge, Ask a lawyer, Ask the clerk of court, Ask any Juror. OR Just read this weeks newspaper, the ONLY criminals you will see listed, who have been sentenced, plead guilty themselves. EVERY OTHER CASE was dismissed. I work out of Dodge County and I can tell you the court officials based out of here think Telfair County is the absolute worst of the worst when it comes to persons being arrested without following proper procedures, lack of evidence and just plain incompetence. Now tell us another BIG FAT JOKE!

I heard yesterday about a lot of peoples money and electronics going amiss at Smiths traffic stops. They also said that even the people caught with drugs were saying that when they get to court that only part of the money + drugs confiscated shows up as evidence. I guess Johnny Smith and his deputies needed some extra Christmas cash.
