My son, was a convicted felon, he served his time.,came home, he had an interview at a very promising job,the interviewer, seem to really want to hire him, then he asked my son to tell him something about himself, in which he thought that he should be honest and told him that he had just been released from Arkansas Dept. of Corrections and bam.. the interview was over. He was very disappointed, so was i, i really think that it is wrong that they will not hire a person that has been convicted,even if he has done his time. Im praying everyday that thius wont affect his thinking,these young men that come home from prison most have been rehabilated and no one wants to give them a chance to try and better themselves, most of the time they end up going right back to prison because we wont allow them a chance.

well i guess its just more punishment. Ppl dont like to have others work for them if they have already proven in their life that they cannot do right. I myself own a business, and i do not hire anyone for any reason that has a felony on their record. Im sorry but that is and will be the way employers do things. Ppl want trustworthy, honorable, hardworking ppl to work for them. Everyone gets a chance to prove themselves in life. No matter what situation u are in from birth, everyone gets a chance to prove themselves. Your son has proven himself to be a felon. From a mothers stand point, you see your son and a changed man, but from the community and the employers standpoint, we see a person who has already screwed up. I live my life by an old saying that my father told me and i do this still to this day, "Give them a second chance, but not a third". But in the business world, ppl with records, dont get a second.

If he's convicted of theft or something of the sort he probably doesn't stand a chance at getting a job in anything that deals with money.

Well expecially now a days, drug charges mess up everything. Im deeply sorry for your family, but if he is going to find a job, it is ganna be a job in a mill or factory working for min wage. Felony drug charges are a automatic turn down. And being honest about that was the best thing, because if he lies, they will find out and only make things worse

i have often wondered,why all men or women ,dont get hired at good paying jobs, now i heard what the gentleman said, why they will not hire these people...well i think that they need to rethink on this one, i for one,will give anyone a chance, for the bible says he without sin cast the first stone,even the Lord forgives us justlike he forgave the lady they were trying to stone, Jesus forgave her...but he told her to go and sin no more.,everyone deserves another chance

I understand comlpetely, and i also agree 100%. But you can forgive someone in your life, but a business is different. We all may be able to forgive this man of crime and put it behind us, but in the business world, money isnt something you can trust just anybody with. I do agree on giving ppl another chance, but when it comes to business or money, it is just really hard.

You admit that you do not live by what your "dear daddy" says then do not bother to mention it. You are obviously nothing more than a superficial nincompoop guilty of the most horrid of offenses; improper grammar. Spell check does offer second chances to check your work and those who do not bother to better themselves when given the opportunity are the... you.

i myself know of friends that ARE honest and hardworking people. They happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and now have a felony record. i don't think you can generalize or stereotype. ALL make mistakes and bad judgement at times. If the interviewing employee admits that the felony is due to theft or a violent crime, then it is more likely due to their lifestyle and they won't be considered. However, those with drug charges can range from your lawyer and accountant to the boy next door that mows your yard. There are ways to screen the candidates and there are things called references. Give people a chance. Felons have kids and bills. And just b/c someone is not a felon, does NOT mean that they are a viable candidate and will be a good worker. Take Bernie Ebbers and the Worldcom scandal and Ken Lay and the Enron fraud. These were EVIL people with clean records. think about it.

My daughter is 18 and she got in a fight with a girl that bullied her her whole high school. Because she had a class ring on and caused injury she was convicted a felon. She's a good worker and smart but now I fear she's doomed. She's afraid to go look for a job. Shouldn't there be some kind of law that classify's felonies to let business owners at least give some people a chance?

I am also a mom that has a son that is a felon, when he first came back home, he had a rough time adjusting to society again. He tried to get a good paying job, he also had a lot of promises, over and over again, no one would hire him because of his record,eventually he gave up and ended up right back in the dept. of corrections, to this day he tells me mom, i am treated better in this place than i am at home. i really saddens me thta he has to go through this again, he keeps telling me that noone will allow him a chance to prove himself, no jobs and he practically gave up on life

I am 9 1/2 yrs out of using poor judgment with a job situation and the lawyer I hired. I took a plea bargin, did a yr in county jail, and now find myself looking for work w/ample experience and no "bites". No further wrong doings in this time since. We haved convicted felons in Congress and the Senate, yet I cannot obtain a min.wage job. For one not to give another chance in the desire for protecting a $ seems not to be what the Bible and Jesus was all about. He is the only Judge, and we will all have to face Him some day. May He show mercy to those in business who show us none. Good day.

i am a twenty four year old female from texas who was raised in church i was convicted of 2 assaults that i didnt committ when i was 19 i accepted 5 yrs probation because i was very poor and could get an attorney to help me fight my case i have cried everyday for four years and that has gotten me no where i often ask god why me i often ask my mother am i crazy and didnt know i did she just cries and says no baby so what am i to do? i sometimes believe i have no reason to live if i cant get a job to support myself and my children
