I NEVER once said all Hispanics refuse to learn English. In fact I said I am against anybody that does refuse to speak the primary language and try to follow the local customs, no matter the country of origin. Like I said before from a previous post"I do not care if you are Mexican, Canadian, French, etc."
To everyone that learned the language,(required for citizenship),customs, history ,government, etc. and went through the process and is a citizen or going through the official process, welcome. ALL others no matter the country of origin need to go home and do it right.

Yeah, I guess you're right. Maybe Cubans are more successful than others because we're lucky enough to come from a "police state."

...or it's just a difference in general attitude towards life. You're content to scrounge for the scraps from whitey's table while we're intent on taking a seat. You're content to build whitey's roads and work in his fast food restaurants while we're designing those roads and owning those restaurants.

The first step toward a better life is learning English. That's a major contributing factor to the success of Cubans.

Whenever you Mexicans decide to quit crying about your problems and start doing something about them, the first logical step will be to learn to speak English and speak it well. There are plenty of Cubans who would be willing to teach you.

Now I know you're just going to get pissed and call me a banana-boater and go on about how lucky my countrymen are because they only have to float 90 - 130 miles north on boats made of tires while your people have the unfortunate task of swimming the entire Rio Grande.

How can I respond to such an intelligent, well-written argument? I suppose I'll have to let you win the day.

I think they (the illegals) are just that lazy, that's why they won't learn English.

What a bunch of idiots. You are complaining about street signs, but here's a question for all you so called born and rised Americans. Why are so many major cities i.e El Paso, Los Angeles, San Antiono spanish names? Better yet, let look at some states i.e California, Florida, and yes even your beloved Tejas. Why didn't all your clever British decents use English names? We didn't create this problem, you idiots did. Besides, the southern part of the US from California to Florida has always been spanish speaking. Maybe instead of flapping your gums, talking about illegals here in the country and why your some dense that you can't speak motre than one languge, you should try figuring out why some **** redneck "George Bush" has weakend this nation so much. Oh and one more thing, there were also english signs where the man was ticketed. The reality was that he was an idiot crying foul for not paying attention. And please, I hope for some response that acutally has merit to it. If all your gonna say is " this is America, speak English" you might aswell be admitting what and idiot you really are.
Maybe if you learned English first we would know what you just said! Come back later - when you can read AND speak English.

OHAGAN - Here's the only problem I see. Once again you group the entire Mexican population in the US as people who can not speak English and or are unsuccesful. I didn't know that learning English and becomeing a citizen meant that you had to turn your back on your hispanic brothers and call them worthless, lazy, or whatever it is you think of them. I assume that any Cubans who come to the US and don't speak english fall in the same category as all these lazy Mexicans that you speak of. So what has you really angry? The fact that your American with a spanish background? The fact that so many hispanics including Cubans enter the US without knowing English? Or is it that no matter how American you claim to be, people look at you and automatically group you in the Hispanic community when shit like this happens because of your unmistakable brown skin? Don't claim to be a proud Cuban in front of other hispanics and then turn around and bash them on sites like these. If Mexico was ruled by a dictator and or was a communist contry, the US would have opend it's doors to them like they did to you. Do you think that people swimming the entire Rio Grand as you put it, would speak English as soon as they hit US soil? Do you think your Cuban ancestors did? One last question, in the Cuban communities in Florida, do you mean to tell me that there are no signs in Spanish? And if there are, why don't you have the nads to protest and have them changed to English? After all we are in America. Oh wait, I know why, because the other Cubans would look at you like your freaking crazy and probably boot your a$$ back to Cuba for a reality check.

Very, VERY well said.

I suppose that's why I find myself somewhat curious and open about Cuban culture. Because they choose to learn our language and assimilate WHILE maintaining their heritage instead of expecting us to learn spanish.

The difference between Cuba and mexico is simple. Cuba is a communist country. There are no elections. They are an oppressed people and so some seek to escape. The problems in Cuba are the fault of the dictatorship they have, meaning it's not easy to even speak out against, let alone fight against.

Mexico, on the other hand, is a democracy much like the US. That means that any problems they face are a result and fault of the people. Instead of trying to fix their own country to make things better, they sneak into ours. And they do so without learning our language and without following our laws. And still they expect US to bend over backwards to help THEM.

That would be like the poor people in the US sneaking into Canada for "a better life." It doesn't make sense. We have our own problems here that we're trying to fix. We can't readily accept the problemed group of another country, especially when they *can* fix things in their country, but choose not to.

Needing asylum from a dictatorship is VASTLY different from just "seeking a better life." They both are searching for a better life, but the ones from mexico are doing so simply because they can't make a decent living in their own country. But....how does working 3 and 4 jobs, barely making ends meet while living with 10 people in a two-bedroom apartment make for a "better life?"

Furthermore, often times those "seeking a better life" are really just seeking to make money which they then funnel back to mexico. They have no aspirations of becoming an American. They just want to make money and leave.

Cubans want to become American. They want to join this culture and blend and share. To that, I say welcome. Enjoy and glad to have you.

To the rest, I say "Go home. You're going to eventually anyway. So save us all some time and go now."

very well said Sam. Americas greatest strength is the people who come/came here to build new lives. The illegals who soak up our taxes in free education and other benifits while making no effort to give anything back are our greatest weakness.

Also can I just say that the left laneof the highway is for passing and faster moving traffic, not for cruising at 10 miles below the speed limit hauling landscaping tools. Thank you
