So wait, there are gay people in Cortland? That's weird.

In supposedly progressive NYC, at Columbia University no less, apparent racists left a noose hanging around a professor's door. The same happened to a principal at a school.
As for Cortland having drugs, and low life people, they exist in every city and in every county. I've seen hard core inner city poverty in neighborhoods like Bedford Stuyvesant, Corona, South Bronx, Jamaica, Harlem (All NYC), and South Central, Bell Gardens and Skid Row (all Los Angeles). Nothing in Cortland compares. And as for supposedly tolerant cities like NYC being nicer for gays, my rent there in Bed-Stuy was $1000 a month for a neighborhood in which I had to move my bed from being near the window because we had frequent gun shots. Oh, and there were squirrel sized rats in my apartment. That was an one bedroom apartment. To move to a nicer one in that same crappy area would have cost me $1,700 a month. To move to Manhattan would cost me about $1000 for a room, at least $2000 for a studio, and probably $3000 for an one bedroom. Why the hell would I pay all that money to live in a closet space, not to be able to have a car (many buildings in the city don't have parking), and why pay all that money for all those years and never get any ownership? As for the condo coop scam in NYC, don't get me started, because after you buy a condo or a coop, you still have to pay building maintance, which is still basically rent. |

I think anyone who can over generalize a county to be horrible has some real issues. First of all, I work in cortland as a service provider for youth, and I know from doing research what this county offers. The U.S Census Bureau will tell you that on average we are lower then the state average in crime, and teenage pregnancies. It seems like the lady who started this has been screwed over pretty bad by a few people and thus blames the whole damn city for it. Get real!

Cortland is a great place to live compared to a lot of towns, even if your mother can also be your sister

escape from the planet of the apes (aka Cortland, NY) Too many pigs, too many pregnant white trash mothers, more toes than teeth, and a political cesspool to boot! Lets BURN that F**Ker down!

I've lived in Cortland my whole life, with the exception of moving around in my younger years, and it's not the worst but not the best I'm sure. What we need is a local and state gov. that stops screwing the hard working people with taxes and no jobs, bad roads and neighborhoods. and give all of us some incentive to stay and raise our families. Instead typical n.y. gives more incentives to be on welfare and create crime with little recourse. I really would like to stay but sometimes I say why, but I'm still here for now.

Is driving drunk and text messaging while turning a corner and running down a few little ol' ladies considered murder? I think so... |

Cortland is similar and different from many small cities where the elite or upper middle class don't accept others who aren't as fortunate. It's a real good ol' boy, corrupt bureaucratic bs, kind of town. However, it's not as crime ridden as other cities, but it's just as dangerous, b/c the issues here are just as serious, and there are no answers in sight. Especially in the breakdown of such issues as: welfare system, poverty, drugs/alcohol, and abuse or the breakdown of the family. The idea is to blame these unfortunate circumstances on the individuals;instead of looking at the bigger picture. The punishment for one group of "lower Class" is harsh and irrepreable and for the "higher class" mid-class is nada!
