I disagree with the woman comment above me, keep in mind we're taking 20 some odd million dollars here, I do have to ask; why was dad letting his daughter use his name to buy a house? I am asking a legitimate question here so don't flame me. I would think that that would be illegal to begin with. Any realtors out there care to explain to me how this works or could happen? I have not bought a home yet (only 22) so all of this is somewhat foreign to me.

Why are these women allowed public defenders (paid with our tax money) when they took 23 million dollars and allegedly put a million or more in their pocket? Make them pay for their own defense! Save our money for the truly poor and indigent.

I can understand a parent, grandparent, or a close family member helping another close family memeber obtain a house but what about these others who knew nothing about the people who were going to occupy the residence? That is just total stupidity.

I certainly hope that the father is exhonerated in all of this!

The poor guy won't ever be able to secure another mortgage or car loan if he's not made whole again...on paper.

It'll take years of court orders, phone calls, threats of lawsuits, blood, sweat, and tears to get HIS credit mess fixed.:-(

Way to show respect and honor to your father...

They can afford good attorneys..Indiana is one of the only states that allows criminals to use dirty money to pay for their attorneys. Shame on any attorney who accepts it though!! Indiana could teach Chicago a few tricks about public corruption.

They could get up to 30 years. Since it is a federal crime, they will be required to do 85% of their sentences or 25.5 years. Getting a public defender will almost guarantee they will get all that time...

Your comment proves that you are a holier-than-thou dimwitted woman!
The reason the father probably let his daughter use his name and credit to buy a house was because she scandled him into believing that she cound not do it by herself.
After reading your comment, you seem to prove that you are a holier than thou dimwitted woman!
Actually, you are acting like the holier than thou dimwitted woman. She asked a question because she did not know the answer. Apparently you don't either.

A good bank underwriter would have spotted scams like this instantly. The banks fell in to the pit of wanting high production numbers at the expense of making sound underwriting deceisons. I will bet the trail leads eventual to operations like CW who encouraged blind eyes. They were betting that continued appreication of homes would protect them for any losses.

And I suppose we're expected to pay for this, too?

When are the bankers and financiers going to pay up for their outrageous goofs and refusal to perform due diligence?

No, I know, it's ALL the fault of the lowly consumer, Dudley Do-Right, play-by-the-rules Homeowner......Mr. Schmucke.

you have got to be kidding that these women got appointed a public defender. this is ridiculous. I cannot wait to get out of this state. all anyone has to do is say they want a public defender and they get one. AND WE HAVE TO PAY FOR IT.

Will the realtors be prosecuted?
If people are upheld in their wrong
doing they will continue. It's all
about greed!
Will their assets be taken away or will
they get a slap on the hand & keep doing the same?

Everyone is allowed a public defender...it's a basic right.

Also, I can sympathize with the father. My sister pretty much screwed me over a long time ago by refusing to pay back $3,000 I loaned her to help her out. It was one of those "I can pay you back in two weeks" kinda things and I thought nothing of helping out my sister. That should be something parents teach their kids...don't trust ANYONE with your money, not even family!

That's not the issue, all citizens are entitled to a public defender (such as it is).

The issue is a system of banking and finance that has been deregulated back to 1929, permitting greed to flourish, buyer beware, no holds barred.

Who Pays when things go wrong? We do, You Do! That's the issue and pitiful amount for public defenders is chump change compared to the bills we're going to have to PAY ON BEHALF OF OUR CREDITORS. We who play by the rules, pay our ever rising taxes, go to work everyday, keep our expenses in check and PAY OUR MORTGAGES ON TIME every month, take it in the EAR. We pay big time.

Even as we speak, another "midas touch" brokerage investment bank has bit the dust. Bear Stearns is the subject of an attempted bailout today. Two days ago, it was Carlyle Capital, another "midas touch" and spin-off of Carlyle Group, run by none other than "Bush Incorporated and Associates." Bear Stearns was also invested in Carlyle Capital.

Ever hear of the "Domino Effect?" What's really scary is the "TED spread" (financial stress indicator) is not good. Two days after the latest $200 Bil input by the FED, its sliding again. The FED only has $800 Billion Available. They've put in $400 Bil thus far, to no effect. That leaves $400 Bil.

Anyone want to wager on how successful the last $400 Bil bet will be?

Because they are charged with criminal acts and under the U.S. Constitution they are entitled to defense of those charges. "If you cannot afford a lawyer one will be appointed to you."

That was an uncalled for comment. She was asking a question because she didn't understand. How does that make her "holier than thou or dimwitted" as you put it. She's only 22 and has never purchased a home. If people never asked questions, they'd never learn. Quit name calling.

I think the father trusted his daughter that she what she was doing was legit. It doesn't state what his age is and we all know, sometimes kids take advantage of their elderly parents.

Daily Horoscope for January 6

Virgo

If you've got an important task to accomplish, this is the time to do it. A Libra Moon ensures that you're level headed, focused and unmoved by the behaviour of others for the next day or so. Don't put any undue pressure on yourself, Virgo: if you don't get it right the first time, you know there'll be another chance. The pessimistic people that you are likely to encounter today need your logic and positive input.
