I believe the kid, it sounds like stupid kid stuff. Why was it so hard to believe something like this could happen in a rural community in southeastern, Ohio? Hard, because it wasn't inner city kids? Get a grip, it's 2009. Kids can be rotten anywhere and everywhere.

Its obvious they shouldn't be doing these kind of things in school. Did anybody get hurt? 2 days suspension and drop it. This world has bigger and better things to do than worry about some boys beating the crap out of each other.

Isn't it interesting that kids could be so bored at school that to pass the time they "beat " each other up ... in a friendly way of course. This is a sad comentary on life in general these days... this school system is no different than any other ...did no one ever walk out of the restroom battered and bruised ? Did no one at school ever notice .anything odd ? Obvioulsy at some point someone did .... and hopefully it'sover ... other than the fact that now we have sparked the curiosity of other young people to think this is the "in" thing to start doing .... what a mess this society is becoming

i agree with tallgrl on this one ... you know kids do stupid stuff all the time this isnt the first time i heard of teens doin this type of stuff i know this from first hand. i knew some boys grownin up that did this type of things but they never did it in school they would always meet up after school and dont be to surprised about it in a small twon bc thats the kinda town i was from and u would never expect the boys that are doin it to be the ones doin it but it is never out of anger they would do it for fun and laughs..

The "Fight Club" shouldn't have been happening on school property period.
But if these kids did this on there own property, and they had rules like signaling when they had enough, no weapons, etc...
Two willing opponents getting their aggregation out seems better than taking it out on innocent victims.
I mean it would be great if they got bored and did their homework, but I remember what it was like at that age too.

If I can throw the gentle reminder. Parents are paying to send kids to school. Or at least the government will step in to send the kids to school. We want them to learn the necessary things so that they can be anything from a cash attendant at a gas station, to fast food, to pizza delivery, to cleaning dishes, to furthering themselves in college or donating time and their learned knowledge back to the very schools that they seem to often dislike or intentionally violate the rules at.

Long and short of it,... we have certain expectations from kids at school, period. Until as parents and other community members finally 'get it' that we must support our school system as often and as much as possible. You don't want the school to talk to your son or daughter without a parent being there. You don't want the child disciplined. You don't want the kid suspended until you can challenge the ruling. You do not want the child expelled for the same reason. So that you can often argue the school's findings. And what is heard time and time again is that, " c'mon,... they're just kids lettin' off steam,... " Ok, I am even semi-understandable of that. I don't think hazing is 100% abused. It has a function. I feel it's part of being initiated into a group that YOU are asking to join and be a member of. I do not in any way shape or form believe that hazing should be anti-spiritual, anti-human nor illegal. However, back in our day, running down the street naked in broad daylight was only one form of hazing. But once the person did it,... they were in. They had to then be treated like crap for many months until more newbies came in. It's a right of passage. I believe in it but am strict in my mind on what can and should be acceptable.

Let's ignore all that and get back to the basics. As a society we expect things from the school. When they deliver, we often raise our taxes and eventually teachers get a better salary, more content with their jobs and more school equipment and learning options.

In summary,... my take on any school issue like this is ZERO TOLERANCE. Remember if they slap their hands. Then they are tying their own hands. It's not at all a stretch to remember how some of these kids whom become misfits go onto try and harm or kill others. Right in the school. A fight club organization may simply be testing the water for something larger in mind from one of the kid organizers. I certainly hope not and am actually going to send a prayer to the school in hopes that these kids open their minds to how much risk this makes to the remaining student body. If the school just suspends the kids for two or three days. Tell me what that means to a kid that is way out of whack and wants to fight. In his mind, he risks 2 or 3 days suspended. Worth it to punch someone in the face or assault a teacher, etc.

I played both sides of fence on this. Hazing can be beneficial and unifying to a responsible group / club. Fight club or any club that incites violence or even idle threat or coercion toward staff or student should be removed from school grounds and evaluated by a psychological doctor or someone able to identify if this particular student is a risk to the rest of our kids. Don't get lost in the news on these things. Keep you eye on the ball. It's wrong. A wrong setting for kids to do this. An iron fist MUST occur and swiftly by the school board. And as parents, we'd better stand up for the board's decision. Unless they don't suspend them long enough. Then that opens a whole world of potential new problems in the very near future. Not just at that school but most every school.

Most Respectfully,
Marysville

i can't really see the problem. bored teenagers fight each other in a school? and? at least they weren't bullying smaller kids or causing trouble in the neighbourhood.

slap them on the wrist and move on, there are worse things to worry about out there.

seems to me the only real charge if they were all willing participants is that it was an unlicensed sport fight.

I think some of us are missing the point here .... there is a time and a place for everything and at school in the rest room is NOT the correct venue. If one of these inocent playful boys slips in water on the bathroom floor during this event .... breaks a bone , cracks his head or even worse ...how forgiving are those parents going to be if their child is paralized or even worse. The other people involved as well as the school system will be on the hook and don't kid youself every parent will see dollar signs in the form of a lawsuit. If it's all so inocent let the parents of the kids involved offer up their back yard or basement for these events. Take them off school property and no one will have a problem. Why would we suppose everyone would enjoy watching two people beat each other to a pulp ....? The rest of the students should have a choise also ..... they are all there to be educated .... this form of education is no doubt being received at home.

To Yes or No (#17) - It is scary, most posts from high schoolers are a hybrid between some amount of English and a a lot of texting. I'm afraid the language as we know it will vanish over time.

You're right. It's getting there quickly. I used to be an english fanatic - I've relaxed, abuse it also. What's going to be interesting is when a lawyer, judge, surgeon, college professor, etc., in the near future is speaking. Our tax$$$ at work.
