I do not think it is right for outsiders to tell you who you can rent to. If you own property, worked hard to pay for it over 35 years time and take care of it then why should anyone be allowed to tell you that you must rent to anyone who drops by and asks? I do not want certain people or types of people to rent and that is that. I had rather see it empty and fall to the ground first. I had rather loose my investment than to rent to people I do not want to live near. I do not have anything listed for rent because of all the red tape and I haven't rented anything in a long time now and won't as long as I can not choose who I rent to. This simply leaves a nice house unused by a decent family and it isn't my fault. I have every right to choose who lives on my property.

i can understand you wanting refrences for renters to make sure your property is taken care of but you cant "NOT" rent to black people and mexicans just because they are black and mexicans.im not saying you do this but alot of people try it and they get in trouble for discrimination.

I know what you're saying. The law says you can't discriminate and that includes "familial status" - not married, gay, no. of kids, etc. You can, however, get references on their work, previous landlords they rented from, etc. We've had property for years and we've had some "doozys". Honestly our renters have been one or two good ones out of 50 bad ones. It just seems to be that MOST renters don't care about taking care of other people's property. As for their race, we've had good and bad of all kinds. We had some African/Americans who paid well but left the place a mess when they left. We've had white people who'd leave owing us 3 months rent. It's a headache and anyone who hasn't rented out property needs to keep their mouth shut unless they've done it. They DO NOT understand. By the time expenses are taken out for upkeep, you make VERY LITTLE. To me, if there was a good place to invest some money, it'd be a much better deal than all the headaches that come with rental property!

Your right there are alot of people that don't have a clue. Rental property is more pain than it is ever worth....what it boils down to is respect...people don't have respect for themselves or others so why would they even start to think about someone elses property....my kids and I were riding 4 wheelers the other day and they wanted to ride across ground that was not ours....I said no we don't have permission, and they could not understand why we could not do that....people ride on ours all the time without asking so they assumed it was just the same....it starts with us teaching our children.

I do not advertise or let it be known by word of mouth that I have a home not being used. If someone I like asks to live there for a fee then I will let them. Otherwise it is mine and I pay taxes on it and all the upkeep so it is my business who I let use my house.

You have to ask yourself why do these people rent their whole lives?

You must not live near my farm because the people who own one acre all have ten four wheelers and would not hesitate to ride on someone elses land. The Sheriff told me if it is on my property without my permission,I own it! I have sent six kids walking home without there four wheelers and when the angry parents showed up,I charged them $100.00 to get the Four wheelers back. The four wheelers have not appeared back on my property!

Owning rental property is a pain in the butt. I hired a professional property management company three years ago and they are worth every dime I pay them.

That is BS. If it is your property, you can rent to anybody or any color you want to. Only in federally or state funded programs do you HAVE to rent to minorities. The private sector can rent their dwellings to anyone they care to, without fear of discrimination. Check the rules before you try to peddle inaccurate information.

Here are the rules....there's a little tool called Google. You might want to use it (it's free)before making a bigger fool of yourself. There really should be a law the prevents dumbasses like yourself from having children and passing the gene on.

Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968 (Fair Housing Act), as amended, prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of dwellings, and in other housing-related transactions, based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status (including children under the age of 18 living with parents or legal custodians, pregnant women, and people securing custody of children under the age of 18), and handicap (disability).

And by the way...it has absolutely nothing to with federal or state funded programs. It applies to all properties nationwide, government owned and privately held.

You know old smoothie he thinks he is a Big Shot lawyer. He likes to use big words. But he does not have enough COMMON SENSE to pour piss out of a booth. I would have gave $1000 to have him as a forman. He is one who sits behind a desk and boss. He wears SOFT CLOTHES. He does not know what LABOR is.

I will agree with you on a couple of points. Since there are laws telling property owners who they will or will not rent or sell to, why not have a law that also controls conception? We could campaign for a reduced/free spay or neuter program. It couldn't be government funded because the government would not wish to lose future recipients of their much needed and tax funded projects.

Not trying to rent anything to anybody. Simply acknowledging a point well taken.
