From today's Raton Range:
A 28-year-old man whom Raton police believe to be responsible for many of the local residential burglaries that occurred in recent months was arrested late last week as he attempted to go into Mexico. Emilio J. Quintana has waived extradition and is expected to be returned to Raton to face charges in connection to at least two, and possibly three, of the burglaries that have plagued Raton since this summer. A string of residential burglaries began some months ago, sparking concern from many residents and the formation of one or more "neighborhood watch" groups. Police believe Quintana has connections to an estimated eight to 10 burglaries that took place in an approximately four-block area around the house where Quintana was living with his girlfriend in the 500 block of South Second Street. |

1 http://www.ratonrange.com/main.asp... Hopefully, if guilty, Quintana will spend many years behind bars and kept away from decent citizens. A quick search shows that Quintana has a lengthy history of lawbreaking and sociopathic behavior in the Raton area. http://www.nmcourts.gov/caselookup/app Obviously, regardless of the outcome of the current charges, Quintana has no respect for the laws of society, no sense of responsibility, and no respect for other people or their property. Good riddance, you POS. |

GUESS HE WOULD RATHER LET THE FELLOW SUPPORT HIMSELF WITH ROBBERIES OF HOMEOWNERS THAN LET ALL OF US SUPPORT HIM IN THE PRISON SYSTEM.that is why we pay taxes.
question? if he should break into a home that is occupied and be caught by the home owner and in fear of his violating probation be sent to prison he should kill that person could that persons kin file a civil lawsuit against the judge? |

Don't know details, but apparently Quintana's girlfriend was recently arrested, caught breaking into a home red-handed by the homeowner.
Probably get probation too, or at least a tsk-tsk from the judge. Hey Quintana and friends, I hear that Judge Paternoster keeps lots of nice stuff in his house! |

Today's Raton Range
(But you read it here first, NINE days ago) ---------- The man whom police believe was responsible for most or all of the residential burglaries that occurred in a Raton neighborhood near downtown last year has avoided prison by pleading guilty to two charges and has been sentenced to five years of supervised probation. Emilio J. Quintana, 28, accepted a plea agreement late last month in Raton District Court, avoiding a trial that was set for September. In the agreement, Quintana pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary. In exchange, Deputy District Attorney Leslie Fernandez dropped four other counts - one for burglary and three for conspiracy. As part of the agreement, both Fernandez and defense attorney Ben Mondragon agreed to recommend a six-year suspended sentence with five years of probation, the maximum amount of probation allowed by law. District Judge John Paternoster accepted the agreement May 27 and ordered the sentence. If the case had gone to trial and Quintana was convicted of all six counts he was facing, he would have potentially faced up to 12 years in prison. Although he was only charged with crimes related to three burglaries, police believe Quintana is connected to eight to 10 burglaries that plagued an approximately four-block area around the house where Quintana - who listed a Cimarron post-office box address on a court document - and Josephine Romero were living in the 500 block of South Second Street. The burglaries to which Quintana pleaded guilty occurred in October and November. Quintana could still be sent to prison if he fails to meet the conditions of his probation, which include maintaining employment and having no contact with Romero. Police suspect Romero had involvement in the burglaries in some way, but she was never charged. The sudden string of residential burglaries sparked the formation of a "neighborhood watch" group. A number of signs noting the existence of the group have been put up in the neighborhood. Police believe the burglaries allegedly done by Quintana were carried out to get items that could be sold in order to gain money to be used to purchase drugs. Police searched the house occupied by Quintana and his girlfriend, but found none of the stolen items from the area burglaries, leading police to believe the couple was "getting rid of this stuff fairly quick." According to a police affidavit for his arrest, Quintana was spotted in October wearing a leather jacket that was identified as an item stolen from a burglarized Raton house. Quintana claimed the jacket was given to him by someone he knows. Quintana blamed the burglaries on someone else and later brought police stolen items that he claimed to have obtained from other people. Quintana was arrested in El Paso, Texas, in late December as he attempted to go into Mexico. |

"Deputy District Attorney Leslie Fernandez dropped four other counts..."
"As part of the agreement, both Fernandez and defense attorney Ben Mondragon agreed to recommend a six-year suspended sentence with five years of probation..." Leslie Fernandez sold us out. Anyone else recall what she ~said~ she'd do if given the chance to convict and imprison the thieves? Paraphrasing since it was months ago, but here's what Leslie said at a public meeting: "If the perpetrator of these crimes is caught, I will fight to get them sent to prison and off the streets." Makes me wonder if we even need a Deputy DA suckling at the taxpayer teat. Wonder what was in it for her. Maybe Quintana promised not to break into ~her~ house in exchange for release??? |

Maybe he'll get put away after the Springer trial. That is, if Springer has a prosecutor who isn't a gutless worm.

Oh my gosh! I think I went to high school with this guy. He didn't graduate with us though. That is horrible what he is doing. I hope they finally see that he won't stop burglarizing and put him away for a long time. Glad he won't be at our 10 year reunion!

"Don't know details, but apparently Quintana's girlfriend was recently arrested, caught breaking into a home red-handed by the homeowner.
Probably get probation too, or at least a tsk-tsk from the judge." Did I call it or what? Josephine Romero, August 13, 2009. COUNT 1 GUILTY SENTENCED TO NM DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS FOR 3 YEARS COUNT 2 GUILTY SENTENCED TO NM DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS FOR 18 MONTHS SENTENCE SUSPENDED IN ITS ENTIRETY AND DEFENDANT PLACED ON SUPERVISED PROBATION FOR A TOTAL PERIOD OF 4 YEARS 6 MONTHS ---------- So this thief gets Probation for home burglary?!? Despite being a repeat offender with a lengthy criminal history including violence, drug dealing, and stealing. Despite being caught red-handed. Despite fighting with the arresting officers. What in the hell does a person have to do around here to get sent to prison?!? And guess who the prosecutor and judge were? Yep, big surprise, it's Leslie and Paternoster again. Those two make quite a team... |
