They were off the air for a time after they were fined by the FCC. Now back on the air again, but no recent news coverage explains how/why.
That's typical of the Raton Range - no followup at all. |

there may be nothing released untill the f.c.c. finishes. pirates are usually in big cities-la ny etc florida spawns them like fish

Richard Hodson CEO/Project Manager Hodson Broadcasting |

gee i guess Mr.Hodson knows the rules better than the agency that makes the or at least thinks he does.
i thought the notice from the FCC was clear in the paper then went to fcc website and read it again the posted all kinds of references on it so il looked them up too. then just now went back and looked for waivers-special operating conditions-every thing i found was old stuff about a student loan.he wrote a lot of letters etc. to fcc complaining about big corporations and how they dominate the airwaves. i guess the guy that has krtn is some big shot like clear channel and what about kcrt & kbkz i think those guys had to be multi millionairs to get into it.sure as hell can't be local. |
mr hodson did file a change of community application. little birdie told me his freaky new station application will violate city ordinances and fcc rules-fcc has not posted a determination on whether he gets to slide any at all from the NAL have fine reduced or suspended.
i will be elmo the great and make prediction. ELMO -"The application for KHOD will be found faulty for several reasons and returned to Mr,Hodson marked denied" Why in the world would you throw away a 82,000watt Flame Thrower to Build the Tiniest station within 200 miles? why ? inquiring minds want to know ?have you finally snapped? Bombed out?from a regional to a joke! in my 30 yeats of dealing with radio station properties i never have seen such a silly thing. |

18. IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that, pursuant to Section 1.80 of the
Commission's Rules within thirty days of the release date of this Notice of Apparent Liability for Forfeiture, Hodson Broadcasting SHALL PAY the full amount of the proposed forfeiture or SHALL FILE a written statement seeking reduction or cancellation of the proposed forfeiture. as of march 11th nothin yet.is Mr. Hodson sweating a lot? |

Ya know, I'd have respect for a person who's willing to invest locally and start a new business in Raton - not the brightest thing to do, but a challenging endeavor.
I'd even have respect for some guy hiding running a true Pirate station out of their garage - broadcasting non-traditional and original programming while dodging the 'Feds' and 'sticking it to the man.' But I have little respect for a so-called businessman who thinks he doesn't have to play by the same rules as every other business. ---------- I've been checking the FCC website also. There was a notice that Hodson had filed an amended permit application, but I could not locate the application itself nor any indication that the requested alterations had been approved... Hodson's construction deadline is also approaching. June 28 was the original deadline and, from what I hear, construction is still not started. |

Serious question,
What eventually happens to the broadcast license if (when) Hodson Broadcasting is unable to satisfy the terms of the CP? Does the frequency allotment go up for auction again? Are the proceeds ($80,000) of the original auction refunded to Hodson? And what if no one expresses a genuine interest in providing an FM radio broadcast to Des Moines, New Mexico, population 150? Is the frequency allotment temporarily retired? |
ANSWERS.
KHOD'S NEW APPLICATION WILL PROBABLY NOT BE APPROVED. THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE THE OTHER BROADCASTERS IN AREA FILED OBJECTIONS EARLY ON TO HIS PIRATE OPERATION. this allows them to object to the new application which appears faulty.(no petition to deny though) the fact that this permittee has so violated his permits may make his station unlicenseable. the allotment would be returned to Des Moines after all of the legal challenges were done with but at great delay to be reauctioned.i found no provision for return of auction proceeds.he paid a pottion of the $80k due to first time broadcaster credits $53,000 i think it was. that he may due to everything be judged to have character issues is a certainty.the violations and subsequent refusal to stop broadcasting an unauthorized station will assure that as well as any back ground investagation for prior violations as well as a law enforcement background check. |
the best outcome he can hope for is to have new application denied and be forced to build out at original location with the original specs.
the new app.calls for a 2,000 watt station located in downtown Raton -will cover very little area outside Raton. From 82,000 watts regional in 3 states(some texas and colorado to a pipsqueak. when i went to Shop at Santa fe Trail traders yesterday i saw the police there talking to him(i guess it was him) wonder what that was about. |
went to Raton this am-khod was off air.did mr.hodson go to sleep at switch or transmitter fail-sky noise no carrier?
It's been off the air all day, and maybe last night. The station office is closed and locked.
This fly-by-night 'broadcast' company is quickly becoming a joke around town. |
Is that the same "Richard Dean Hodson" who has recently been convicted of making a bomb threat in Nevada?
The case was finally settled in January 2009 by the Nevada Supreme Court. Sentence, 36 months probation. http://www.nvsupremecourt.us/documents/unpubl... Could be why the radio station is now shuttered... |
[sigh] Now it seems we will have to wait even longer for a new radio station in Des Moines and far NE New Mexico - this place is like a radio dead zone.
It's unfortunate that the FCC isn't more particular in who is allowed to participate in the frequency auctions. How did this bozo get through the screening process anyhow??? But the FCC probably doesn't care, so long as they got the money. |
Someone was willing to pay $50,000 for the 'privilege' of broadcasting an FM signal to an area with one resident (non-bovine) per square mile. That should have been the first clue to the FCC that this guy wasn't quite all-together. :) |
The jury heard testimony that Hodson told the victim that he was going to blow up her car...
"I think I'm doing a BANG-up job," Hodson said. |
heard big rog took offense at something he said
not smart to talk about people on air.probably thinks you can say anything and not get punched in nose. who me-that was a good one! |
the neighboring business complained about noise pollution from the generator and even the side walk if you must know.Miss that radio station. |
the station is locked because I refused to put his night programing on and work a day shift. I am a full time graduate student that does public service as part of my scholarship requirements. He made a joke not a bomb threat. he is working in Vegas & the station closing has nothing to do with this. he made the mistake of representing himself and may have lost because of this but did not make a bomb threat. Richard pisses alot of people off though. |
