Look I have read all of your posts and I am sick of it. Get out of MArlboro County if you are that offended by the whole county. You sit there and throw out racial allegations against any white who is well off and blame them for the problems of the county. What about the racial injustices to the white community that when reported or brought up are considered racist views by those like you. Seriously man i don't even live in the county anymore because of college, but I don't talk badly about my home because that is what it will always be my home. Do you even know Dennis Miller? Many people all over this country who have access to equipment or special perks through their jobs use them for personal use and is mainly tolerated by the business unless specifically prohibited by the policies of the company. If your family member died in the manner in which Mr. Parks died would you really want to know that he was responisible for his own death because of he was under the influence of something. Plus you would think in such a good ol' boy town like Bennettsville the rumors of that would have spread like wild fire. Anyways back to my point, you are the type of person who gives the county a bad reputation and prevents new people from moving there because of such a negative connotation you give it. My advice, and I strongly suggest you heed it, is to quit blaming any well off white person for the problems of the county and try to motivate those who syphon the life out of it. If you are not up to that challenge then move somewhere else where people want to hear you bad mouth the place you live because you didn't make the right choices to try and get ahead in life. These are your best options so pplease make the choice cause I am sick of seeing you bad mouth my home county and hometown. Did you ever speak to Greg Ross in person like he suggested? Probably not but that is your character, hiding behind aninimity.

It seems like a lot of bad is goingon in old B'ville. I hate to see my home town go to pieces like this but i have noticed when I visit it's not looking to good.
If you don't like the way things are there is a way of changing it besides bad mouthing everyone. Its called voting and making changes through the government.
But if you are not living there anymore maybe you don't need to say anything

Blacks are not the only ones that do that. I know a lot of my friends whi are white that put systems in their cars to play rock music like it should be played, loud. A business has the right to sell its product but it is the customer's responisibility to use it in the proper fashion within the confines of the laws of the city. Why in the world would you just wanna stand on the public sidewalk like a bum and just be taking up space, making the town look worse. That law is primarily to prevent illegal actions from taking place, like drug dealing in the bad neighborhoods downtown? Really think before you post Black.

You mean that as "free" citizens in a "free" country we cannot just stand on a sidewalk for no reason at all? Are you seriously suggesting that people just standing doing nothing are taking up space and making an area look worse? That's the silliest thing I've ever heard.

Ever notice how all these laws that are supposed to be geared towards the illegal really affect the rest of us the most?

As long as people sit back and let city, county, and our much BELOVED local representative,our 3 senators and our other assorted JACK IN THE BOX leaders tell them what to do, Bennettsville and Marlboro County will never change. You have to put all aside and put good people in office. Start off with a new school board. Get rid of the money-loving dumbasses and put people in that will make changes. Perhaps if new people are put in, they will get rid of a lot of freeloaders that are supposedly "working" for the school at the tune of $65thousand and up a year. Only we can change that. Don't forget to add judge Heath, Max Alderman, and felon Wes Parks to the list of assholes to get rid of.

LYnda unless you are originally from Bennettsville and know the exact layout of the city and the issues that we go through in that town please do not comment on the "silliness" of a law or my statements. With the structure of downtown Bennettsville and the lack of downtown shops and one designated area to stop and enjoy yourself along the way, there is no point to stand around on the sidewalk. From being in Charleston I am approached by panhandlers a lot and all they do is stand on the sidewalks waiting to ask for money and I do not trust people who hang out on sidewalks now.

Since when does location come into play when it comes to silliness? I have lived in NYC and know all about panhandlers. You were not talking about panhandlers, but commenting on anyone just standing on the street. I happen to stand on the street a lot these days here in Phoenix, waiting for a bus, or waiting for a cab I've called or waiting for a friend to pick me up. Your blanket statement claims that the act of standing on the street ruins an area. Panhandlers, bums, junkies and dope dealers are not the only ones who stand on the street. These days, all smokers HAVE to stand on the street and there is NO place we can smoke outside of our homes, and while out shopping or at work, the street is all we are allowed. Hence, my remark that I thought any law forbidding standing on the street was silly, and I still stand by it. You don't have to like it, but this is a free country (at least still for the time being) and freedom of speech is still allowed. You post on a public forum, expect others to post also, whether they live near you or not.

i agee with ya man.the political system here is rotten to the core.people are told who to vote for, ballots are "lost" ,the machines go down,etc.And as for the city,we have convicted felons handling our finances,utility directors who dont get any bills themselves but get paid for 2 jobs when they dont even do one.we need a clean sweep of this whole county,and let the crooks and the good old boys go somewhere else to suck the people dry.

Well Lynda like I said congratulations for living in such a large city, where you have to stand on a sidewalk for the bus, which we do not have a system for, and taxis, which are minimal here as well. We only have about 9000+ people within our city limits so yes the location does have a lot to do with the number of people on sidewalks and there uses. So I will also stand by my statements based on what I see back home. Smoking is not that big of an issue in SC, we still can smoke in our bars and sections of restaurants. PEople who smoke and work downtown usually go out back to smoke, since smoking is seen as such a vice and they do not want to tarnish their businesses look. So state whatever you want but remember that the places we live are fundamentally different. Large city and rural town.

Large or small, the average person standing on a sidewalk is hardly going to ruin the look of the town is all I'm saying.

On the other hand, I find it disgusting that smokers have allowed the anti's to make them feel like such second class citizens that they stand out back to smoke. Disgusting that the use of a legal product is looked upon with such disdain, while others are allowed to flaunt theirs (drinking, obesity, etc.).

My only point is there is no real reson for these people to loiter on the sidewalks downtown. Nothing is there for them and it is just a waste to stand around and watch the whole day pass you by.

Says who? Perhaps that is their way of relaxing? Perhaps they enjoy standing there and watching the comings and goings of others? Who are you to say what they should be doing with their time? Listen...I can appreciate your desire to voice your opinion in what you PERCEIVE to be a debate about basic freedoms, but I have spent more time in Bennettsville than Matt and he is correct.

But you know what? You are, too.

Well, Matt is talking about people who are not “bums” by definition, but more like "regular ordinary people" just BUMMING AROUND. Let's call them "Wannabe Bums."

And trust me, they…
- are NOT enjoying "their way of relaxing"
- have NOT "spent their life running and working and have recently found it harming them and are slowing down"
- are NOT "learning to stop and smell the roses"
- are NOT "suddenly overcome with an urge to just stop and breathe in the world around them"

No...instead, the folks he is referring to seemingly have nothing else to do and, more often than not, WANT nothing more to do. Standing around doing nothing IS, by all measures, apparently what they want. And you can believe that or not, but I know it because I've helped some get jobs, only to see them back on the street within a couple weeks because they laid out of work or, imagine this, showed up half-drunk. And the best part? When I saw them again they were hanging around in the SAME DAMN SPOTS!(Must be good roses to smell there, or something, AZ...but I doubt it; I don’t think any roses were involved, but perhaps another type of plant was, so maybe they WERE just enjoying "their way of relaxing" or were "suddenly overcome with an urge to just stop and breathe in the world around them." And I can imagine why.)

Plus, the bottom line is that there are LOITERING laws on the books in most cities and towns to DIRECTLY address the circumstances that Matt has described. That’s all he was trying to relate.

Anyway, there’s really not an argument here, friend, so let’s just let it go. Cool?

And, BTW, be sure to holla if you hear of ANYBODY ANYWHERE trying to deny basic freedoms, cause I’m with ya on that.
