I know this women teacher in Mattoon who entered herself into mental health awhile back for depression and for being suicidal. She still acts weird sometimes, making up things that are not true. Should I let them know? I don't think she should be around these children. It is on record that she entered herself to mental health, so they can verfie it. Do you think she should be allowed to be around small children?

Your comments seem to indicate that you know knowing about emotional problems. One family in four families have experienced it. I think the teacher in question should be commended for recognizing she had a problem, and took concrete steps to get help. To assume she is unfit to be around children is ludicrous, and shows total ignorance on your part. To the contrary, she is probably an excellent teacher. You sound like a gossip monger as well as a trouble maker. I have to wonder if your concern is really about the kids, or is it an attempt on your part to cause problems for the teacher in question? I suspect the latter. You should be ashamed of your actions. And I'll bet the teacher knows how to spell verify, which you don't.

I didn’t say she didn’t have courage for going to get help, that’s not the issue here. The issue is that there are small children involved here. I know most parents would be very concerned if someone who entered a mental health facility for having a suicidal behavior would be quite concerned having their children taught by someone with past mental health problems. I have asked countless of people if they knew this woman had those types of mental problems in the past what they would do? Most said remove their child, complain to get another teacher assigned, have her licenses suspended, or sue the school for not letting them know. If the women did not provide this information when applying to a school then she should be dismissed at once. I am sorry but that’s the way society is because of safety of children. You can’t hide from the truth; she did commit herself for suicidal behavior. There is no guarantee now that she can function properly around children. You may want to believe she can, but it’s not worth the risk when children are involved. I am seeking any information on her licenses, trying to find out if there can be limitations put on it. I want to notify all schools and parents. If all this fails then maybe post here name all over this site to warn concerned parents. Where I live they will not let anyone teach if they have a mental condition from the past, its standard practice of great concern. I do this for the safety of children. I know this woman and she is very unstable even today, she still acts very disturbed.

It’s doesn’t matter what you think about me. I have two young girls and I do not want this woman teaching my children. I have this right as a parent. It is ridiculous to hire some women who checked herself into a mental faculty as a teacher to watch over children. This women still has episodes about people trying to get her and has problems. There are plenty of qualified teachers looking for jobs, that we do not need this in our schools. There are requirements to keep Illinois teachers licenses and she could have it revoked if they find out about her past mental history.

Inferring that someone who suffers from depression would be a danger around small children is woefully ignorant and merely perpetuates the myth that anyone who has had mental health issues is dangerous and only adds to the stigma we have with mental health issues. If Brenda has concerns, the logical place to express them are with the administrators at her children's school, and not on a blog site.

I really don’t know what to say about you other then you support this type of stuff from teachers. This women teacher has checked herself into a mental facility. She works with small children and she makes up false claims, as well as hallucinates that people are going to get her. If this isn’t evidence enough that she should never teach children again, then I don’t know what it would take to convince you. Look at the link on Google and read all the sick teachers who have sexually assaulted children or killed them, do you what to take the risk? http://www.google.com/search...

Suicidal thoughts come from Depression, which does NOT exist among kids, so it would be 'hidden' therapy for this woman, plus I doubt she would be working alone or by herself?

I still don’t think she should be allowed to teach children. There is no good reason to let her because there’s no guarantee she can function normally now. I wouldn’t want her around my kids and if I found out the School didn’t warn me, I would have a major lawsuit against them for negligence of not providing information to the parents.

I suppose some of you would like for the teacher to wear a big red letter on her clothing to announce her shame for seeking professional medical help with a health problem.

Not really, but the parents should have a right to protect their children. There are so many other jobs out there for this woman to do, so it’s not the end of the road. Anytime small children are involved and the teacher isn’t stable they must be removed as a teacher there no other choice. I hope this woman gets better. You have to understand even after intensive therapy this woman claims people are out to get her and she still has depression. No telling what she might do.

Under the Health care Privacy Protection Act, it would not be leagle to make the information public. While intended to protect the privacy of people, the HIPPA also leaves them open to vicious rumors and gossip spread by people like you.

After reading your comments, I would say she is right. You seem to be the one with the mental problem, Brenda.

And how would you know anything about her therapy? Those records are not open to the public, not even nosy people like yourself can access them.
