Gulf War solider gets beat up by cop. I can relate with what this solider is dealing with. I am a decorated war veteran with honors from the gulf war and I was treated wrongly and intimidated at the Coles county sheriff’s department in Charleston Illinois; just for asking a question. Sheriff Cox apparently lets his deputy’s get away with whatever they want. I have no criminal record; I am a good guy and tax payer and veteran. I meet two deputy’s sheriffs at the Coles County sheriff’s department that were really good guys and professional, I think one of the officers name was Saunders and the other was fisher. Hite and Osborne are the bad ones, so watch out.

I know the driver was drinking, but that doesn’t give this deputy the right to slam anyone like that into the ground, the guy wasn’t resisting. If it was ok, then why did he lie?

Reminds me of Deputy Jim Hite and Ron Osborne together at work. Deputy Hite made me follow him down to the basement of the jail, for reasons I don’t understand to this day. Then he started yelling at me like a crazy man. I was scared for my life and all I did was come over to ask the sheriff a question about the law. This shows that some cops shouldn’t have guns. You have to have control as a deputy, to show you are a professional, Hite is not professional.

Lawsuit has been filed against Coles County Sheriff; apparently a man has died from Mattoon under their custody. The 26 years old young man was taken to Sara Bush Lincoln hospital were he died. The lawsuit was issued against Sheriff and several officers from what I have read, for being negligent.

There is another officer at the Coles county sheriffs’ office that I recently had a conversation with concerning a question I had. I had to post his name here, because he was so respectful, nice and very professional to me. His name is chief deputy Brent Butler. I just think the public needs to know, when a duty officer has did a great job, treating a citizen with the up most respect.

I will agree Chief Deputy Brent Butler is a pretty darn good police officer. I think he would go out of his way to help anyone. The one thing I noticed about him is he is very smart, polite and most of all he cares about the people of Coles County Illinois.

I'm not here to defend anyone, but it must be a frustrating job dealing with the scum of the county on a daily basis. I could see how they would lose their temper from time to time in dealing with the druggies, thieves and the general riff raft that usually makeup the jail population.
