Martin Luther King Matthews Parade

I am sad to report that the white citizens of Matthews did not support the annual MLK Matthews Parade this year. The African American citizens did come out in beautiful weather to witness the parade. There were many dignataries from this area and several from DC and Atlanta including baseball players, actors and TV stars. The House of Prayer band entertained with fancy stepping and joyous music followed by beauty queens of every hue and step dancers, scouts and floats from Matthews businesses. Rev Martin Luther King impersonator Terrence Clinton of Summerville SC waved to the crowd from the back of a beautifully restored 1959 Cadillac convertible. People were amazed at how much he looked and sounded like Dr. King. He gave the famous "I have a Dream" speech earlier at Fairview AME Church and had the congregation in tears of joy. If you missed the parade this year make plans to attend next year in downtown Matthews.
