I believe that the police in mattwawa hide alot of things when it comes to police misconduct. I also believe that they are good at exagratingthe truth and fabracating it as well. cops should be nuteral not biass or racist. but thats what they are there in mattawa. I used to live there I know. the shooting that happened on new years day, was exessive and it violated civil rights as well as the 6th and 8th amendments. an officer of the law should know better than to tazer someone in the face and shot at someone while unarmed. if you have been a victim of mattawa police harrasment or misconduct please let me know. thank you.

I am sorry Nancy if you got offended, but I have lived in mattawa and I know that there is lots of police descretion. being a crimianl justice student going on three years and wanting to be a cop myself and having a sibing as a law enforcement officer makes a lot more sence.

I personally know the police officers in Mattawa and I think they do the best they can. If they had more officers I feel that could rule out any officer misconduct and also eliminate alot of the crime. I feel they should really look into having more officers relocate to Mattawa. If there is some bad officers there that are violating someones rights undocumented or not I agree that they should be held accountable for their actions.

Nancy, I too know the chief of mattawa even knew him before he was cheif, I knew the cheif before him as well I went to school with his son. all I feel the the cheif before this one was more fair or went by the rules. and I also know first hand that if you are liked by them which I was, you get away with things your not supposed too, I did. thats how I know about favortisam and the descretion there.

Texas thinks that its wrong to shoot someone who is trying to run you over!? On the new years day shooting officers shot a man who was driving his SUV towards one of them. I worked in Mattawa with their police department. There needs to be an Ephrata sized police department in Mattawa. Unfortunately its a town that has a much larger proportion of single, unattatched men than most other places, which always equates to a high crime rate, no matter what color. If Texas were a CrimJ major he'd know that.
Its always funny when someone calls police racist in a towm which is over 90% hispanic. It goes to reckon that police would naturally arrest a lot of latinos since there is virtually no one of another race to arrest. The latino officers who have attempted to work there invariably told me that everyone that he contacted acted like he ought to let them off because they and he were both latino. As if being the same race as an officer made their actions somehow legal. In my eight years as a cop no one ever asked me to let them off because we were both white. If white gangs were a problem in Mattawa it also stands to reckon that police would arrest a lot of them too. If Mattawa wants less crime the PARENT(S) of the town need to control the whereabouts of their kids in stead of expecting a government agency to do it for them. There is not so much a crime problem in Mattawa as a parenting crisis where parents expect the village to raise their kids. Hows that working for ya?

I agree that it is a matter of "kids" doing pretty much what they want, but it is not so much a matter of the parents not raising the kids properly. In Mattawa, many of the kids are raising the parents that won't step out and learn English and American civility on their own. The parents want to transplant Mexico into Mattawa. With President Carter's passage of the Bilingual State, social glue has been coming undone. The kids aren't doing too bad a job of raising their parents. Most of the parents mind them more well than your kids mind you. Too bad Mattawa does'nt have a crop of "children." There was just a triple homicide here last night.
