If one can tell by a name - probably not - anyway sad no matter who dies - not sure how much the license ensures a good driver - or a sober one. Who drives the wrong way? A drunk driver! Eliot Spitzonus will now hold a press conference saying that there's a lot of drunk drivers out there and "we need to get them out of the shadows" so we will legalize drunk driving! This is the logic of Spitzonus and the democrats in Albany. The Dems are shooting themselves in the foot on this issue!

I see all of the comments about the "illegals" ( thank you gumshoes for your assumption) but no one commented on the apparent white man that was driving the wrong way, but hey its easier to attack a 21 year old kid. Jerks.

I worked with Chris Voelpel for quite a few years. I was so proud of his accomplishments and I regarded him as the cream rising to the top. His time was taken too soon. He had so much yet to explore. A good man that actually gave a damn. I am so sorry Chris. I wish I made the time for that extra phone call to hear ya smile. But now I realize that I have some phone calls that I can't miss. I miss ya buddy... I really do...

I wish you all would comment on the whole story here and that being the loss of 4 innocent lives, in which it is highly possible ALCOHOL had a part in some of them. One may have been his own demise from too much alcohol. As far as Ramiez, I agree should have been arrested. It should also be a felony not to have insurance, and it is not only illegals who violate this law. Many convicted drunks still violate them everyday. After losing a wife and 2 infants to one of these drunk drivers I speak with authority. Demand that our politicans change the laws to protect our innocents. Demand harsher penalties. Allow police to conduct random stops on suspects. Finally file a class action suit against Govenor Spitzers plan for allowing illegal aliens new I.D>'s

This ladies and gentlemen, sadly has become the normal weekend news. Loss of life due to idiots who choose to drink and drive. Ewo weeks ago I witnessed a car accident where the vehicle was spit in half, however the driver survived I don't know. He could barely stand up, but not from injury. He was ossified drunk! All to often the drunk walks away. I happened to see this same individual the other day leaving a PUB and getting behind the wheel again. I notified 9-11 and he was once again arrested. The officer said he had 6 other DWI arrest. So Why is he allowed to be out there as a threat to all of us? How many more lives have to be lost? Let us all take a moment to pray for these people lost this weekend and be ready to do it all over next weekend. Elect Jerry Carter to District Court Nassau County

Why do you speed up when the light turns yellow? One takes one's life into one's hands when one drives over the border into Suffolk. Seriously. The worst with blowing lights is William Floyd and Montauk (one of the busiest intersections in the county) and Route 101 and Sunrise North Service Road. No one sees the red turn arrow there, even though it's in two f***ing places!

Two cars heading NB on Horseblock from the Expressway? That wasn't going to end well. How do you get ONLY written summonses for having NOTHING (license, Reg or Ins)? Oh that's right. Lawn I-Land.
How does one go WB on EB Sunrise, a VERY divided without either A)falling asleep at the wheel, or the obvious that he was DWI.
NONE of you can drive out there! How do you like that?

If the courts actually enforced the D.W.I laws people might actually think twice before getting behind the wheel. And remember your elected Republicans want the Illegals here just as much as the Liberals...

Long Islanders can be so block-headed. Why are we using the fact that the person's name happened to be "Ramirez" as an excuse to bash illegals and Spitzer? The way all of us drive so fast, this could have happened to any of us! "Ramirez" was just 21 years old. Male or female, this age-group doesn't have too much life-experience yet. The name could have been Smith or Jones. Before there was such a problem with iilegals on Long Island, another young girl, driving without a license, no inspection, no insurance, and no brakes, ran a stop sign on the same road in 1968, hitting a small child crossing the road. Her name wasn't "Ramirez", however, she was just as young. One of our own, young people acting stupid, making some of the worst mistakes of her life. Listen people, we all better slow down before we kill each other on our own roads!
