Stories like this are why the more progressive fire departments do not respond "Hot" to car fires when they have nothing to save upon their arrival.
That may be the case, but in this instance, if you've read the articles in the more local papers like the Independent or the Repository or listened to the 911 tapes linked on the Repository's site, you will see and hear that the vehicle on fire had rolled and was up against a house. Thus increasing the size of the response and the need for a "lights and sirens" response, from what I've been told.

So Rob you are saying a car and house is more important than 2 lives. Just because the firetruck had lights and siren on, it does not give them the right to speed and not follow all traffic laws.

No, I am not saying that a house and vehicle are more important than any amount of lives, that's ridiculous to even ask. My answer was in regards to the post I quoted saying that they were ONLY going to a car fire when they weren't. The vehicle had rolled up against a house in a neighborhood where the houses are in bunches very close together. That would not just be a car fire, but a potential for a house fire or potentially multiple house fires with the presence of human lives in them unknown. It then becomes a much more important call than JUST a car fire.

Also unlike some here I will reserve my judgement until after the investigation results come out, but Ohio Revised Code DOES give a fire truck, ambulance, police car etc. the right to speed and to disregard traffic laws while responding to an emergency call as long as they use "due regard" for their safety and the safety of others. It doesn't matter how safe you are or aren't though, if someone pulls directly out in front of a 20 something ton vehicle, there is not much the driver can do.
