Hard to drive a bargain

The guy in the article summed the situation up perfectly:

"'You know what's scary about this is it could wipe out the economy of this country.''"

He's right. Even as more people are buying smaller cars, it's still pretty pathetic when it costs upwards of $40 to fill-up your tank (and your tank is 13-14 gals max).

The price of oil is simply based on "concerns", "speculation" and "fear" with ABSOLUTELY NO SUBSTANTIVE EVIDENCE to support such BS. When the economy is officially in the crapper and the word "recession" is officially used by the Government, THEN you'll start to see something being done about the gas prices.

And don't look for our elected officials to do a damn thing about gas prices, besides offer lip service. The oil companies are deep in the pockets of BOTH sides of the aisle (so those of you playing the ignorant political card can shut it already). You would think the record-high price of gas would really spur the talk of alternative fuels/energy.

Not a peep on that, either. Personally, I would love to see the economy officially hit rock-bottom, so I can sit back and laugh (like many others) and the ignorance of every single elected official who refused to do anything or denied the fact that the economy is skidding downward out-of-control.

It's a shame that in 2001 drillers had 138 billion dollars of their own money to drill on 2000 acres in the nortern most area of Alaska. Estimating 1-2 million barrels a day with a 50 year supply and a time line of 7-8 years to completion. But,for the past 23 years the 'tree huggers' have voted this down.In the meantime,Pelosi and 'Mr. Al' are flying bigger and faster oil gussling jets,while the rest of us are lucky to have a bicycle. Keep voting for these useful idiots and we'll be paying $30 a gallon-if u can find it...

Our beloved 'tree hugging' socialist government is proposing 'revenge' against the evil oil companies. They are proposing a 'windfall profits' tax on the oil companies. I was around for the last time this happened in 1973. Overnight,the price of oil went from $2.50 a barrel to $12.50,and up to around $40 a barrel. So, they taxed the oil companies (American). Nothing was done to the 'evil' oil sheiks. At that time,it cost 10 cents to produce a barrel of oil in Arab regions. So,the tax was passed on to the consumers. We were getting 'hosed' by the oil sheiks and then by our stupid Congress. Had enough people??
