Not putting her in jail sends the wrong message. She should have repaid the money then been sent to jail for the crime. All I can say is she must of had one damn good set of lawyers.

this is another typical example of why white collar crimes pays. no jail time, no income tax, probably no chance of restitution and this witch goes to a shrink. where do i sign up? steal money from a judge and you'll get life, but from a business, you get nothing

Here's a thought...who will want to hire a 65 yr old woman on probation for embezzling company funds into their business? Although living where she did and rubbing elbows with all the right people {networking being the magic phrase} somehow always seems to be a wash with any of the wrong things you've done. You people who run business offices are so willing to trust subordinates to do your work for you that you most times set yourselves up for this type of crime..and you let it go on for years. Didn't this same type of thing just happen to Waikems, Zieglers, St. Barbara's, allowing the fox to guard the chickens. Blind trust. Nice supervision of assets!

Did you read the article? The victim asked the judge to put her on probation.

exactly- makes senses that the victim doesn't want a 65year old woman in prison. They rightfully want restitution-and if she doesn't pay she'll go to prison

Justice will be her repaying $299,999 to Avalon RV AND getting the 4 years in jail for failing to pay back the full $300,000 stolen.

I am somewhat doubtful she will live long enough to repay the money. Evidently Avalon must have way to write off the money. So, she sells the Cadillac, then what? A J.D. Byrider car that has 200,000 miles which, like her, will never survive long enough to pay off the loan.

In a way, a want to take my hat off to Avalon. Since she owned up to the crime, they are giving her a second chance to find redemption. Maybe that may be an answer to overcrowded prisons--after all once you start making license plates for three dollars a day, the debt will never be repaid. Obviously this is not an answer for all criminals

Many prisons are charging inmates room and board now, so this lady, if she keeps her hands clean, will defiantly become a more productive citizen.
Besides, I don't want to pay taxes to keep her behind bars.

I wonder if Martha Stewart could have baked yummies to repay her "crime" instead of taking a long extended visit to West Virginia

ALOT OF HOSTILITY HERE. I HAVE MORE ROOM IN MY HEART FOR A WOMAN WITH, WHAT LOOKS LIKE A GAMBLING PROBLEM, THAN FOR A FATHER WHO KILLS HIS CHILD, OR AN ARMED ROBBER LOOKING FOR DRUG MONEY. THERE ArE PEOLPLE WHO SHOULD BE HELPED, AND THOSE WHO SHOULD SUFFER TAG-TEAM BEATINGS.

Gambling Problem? Get those casinos and loser Keno games here ASAP so people could spend more money gambling. Wake up people. Gambling may be 'fun', but it is costing many people alot more than the couple of dollars lost in the slots. This is an addiction, like drugs and alcohol. And like all addicts, gambler will find their 'addiction' fun and encourage others to join them.

The article is clear, but you don't understand that there is a point at which what the victem wants and what the judge gives are 2 different things. Sounds like the judge was on someones OSU free season ticket list. I thing that there should be an investigation - where's the NAACP or ACLU when you want em?
She should rot in jail- instead the wrong message is sent.

You should be very careful about who you accuse. You obviously know nothing about this situation. The sentence requires her to repay $300,000 by the end of November or go to prison. She has already paid 150K and has agreed to a civil settlement of more. How could she possibly pay that money back if she is in prison? You should have some facts before you accuse someone of bribery.

how can she pay back that money working at McDonalds or Wal-Mart? Do you seriously think anyone will hire her again as a bookkeeper, allowing her a chance to make enough money to have any left over to pay back? Plus by the time the civil suits are over she'll owe way more than that for the "pain and suffering" the owners endured.

She NEEDS to go to prison. At least there she'll eat 3x/day, never have her heat or electricity turned off, and will be able to get better cable and clothing. I she's trying to pay back another $150k working at a job i just don't see how she can even live on the outside.

I agree, white collar crime DOES pay when you don't go to prison. So she's financially ruined at 65, she'll be in a nursing home soon anyways. What's the difference between that and a prison? Better health care in prison i suppose.

and yes, just because white people gamble and black people do drugs (in your world anyhow) doesn't make either one any less or more of an addiction. Many families are ruined by gambling addicts as are druggies.

I don't understand the Civil Suit. The company did not want her to go to jail in order to let her pay back the money which she has began to do. So why the Civil Suit?

how about she if she has to do community service??(in fact I think that all non-serving time crimes should do this) I know of some public places that could use a good cleaning Canal Park, around school buildings of the trash of the local students or parents that go there. The Arkron area just in general could have a clean up--neighborhoods where Sr. citzens live, but can't really get out and cut the grass and then clean up the clippings, etc.
