I remember when Massena was such a nice place. Most the high school kids went to football games and dances. Some did other things, but not like what is happening now. Most people were friendly and always willing to help another. Teen pregnancy rarely occurred. There used to be sidewalk sales every summer downtown and the town was kept up so nice. People could walk the street whenever they wanted without fear and even keep their doors unlocked. The police would walk their beat and got to know a lot of the people and the kids. WHAT THE HELL HAS HAPPENED? I loved it here, but now I don't want my children and grandchildren to stay here. Drugs are everywhere and parents buy them for their own children now. Main Street looks like shit. The town looks like shit. Apparently this town is destined to be like the drug infested holes on the Mexican border. It saddens me to see what is happening.

You think its safer to shop in Canton or Potsdam? There are nicer stores there but I watched a movie in Canton and had to get gas afterwards and was terrified to get out of my car because of the gangster hoodlum college students. I rather go to Massena WalMart then Potsdams. Most of the college students are rude or think they are gangsters and I am around most of their ages and can't stand it. Trust me I don't know what Massena was like. But there are drugs everywhere, there is crime everywhere it will never completely go away.Massena does need to clean up its downtown though but that's just common sense. and as for parents who buy their own kids drug they should not be able to have children because that's just sad and pathetic.

Recently on a trip back home to Northern NY I ate dinner at the Ponderosa in Massena, shopped in Potsdam's Walmart and got gas and a coffee at a Stewarts in Canton after dark and guess what happened to me? Absolutely NOTHING. I'm still alive and well. No food poisioning and i didn't get mugged. I must be one of the lucky ones to have gotten out of there alive huh?

Best thing is let the drug dealers, addicts, whores, parolee s and skumbags have the town and eventually they will die off
When was Massena a nice town? I grew up there in the 80's and remember it being a living hell but then again you must've been a star football or hockey player, a hot chick or lived on the hill? I grew up poor and was beat up and harassed constantly because of it.

If your a scummer too you better get your kids out of there fast while they still have all their teeth and sanity. That is unless they are great football players then you have nothing too worry about

Back in the day the football team actually won so there was a reason to go watch them play. I blame Jeff Slack for that!

I went to mchs in the 80's played sports and had many friends that were from massena. Weed seemed be then only "problem" but wasnt epidemic. Racism was always there but not by many. Had great memories but nowadays its way out of hand with the drugs and the blame game. The mall and Walmart killed the downtown strolls of local shops. Like any other small town in the USA. The rez is an internal combustion but I live there, live my own life and look away AND complain about the decline of humanity that swallows our youth. Parenting has fallen and is taken over by reality tv.

Well said "Native" To me it's the breakdown over the last few generations to where everything has gotten easier and children/parents have gotten soft. It's easier to deal drugs and collect welfare. A few generations ago people would work 2-3 jobs to support a family but presently it's easier to collect welfare, deal drugs and watch reality TV and play computer games. We have become a nation of greedy and lazy people. With that being said if my child was in the throes of a drug dealing punk I would take care of business. In fact I have. In the past I have contacted law enforcement and given the names of dealers and told them I was holding them responsible for the chidrens lives. Guess what? They took care of business. Bottom line when it comes to my family I take care of business. This is my child and no one is going to f$#& with them!!!!!!!!!!

Its a shame. My kids arent out late and they do go out i wanna exactly where theyve been and with who. I don't trust anyone, sadly, but when it comes to my kids am in full responsibility of their actions and reactions.
I will call their phone throughout night and if they dont answer right away they pay consequences. Put my parents through it all so I know every excuse in the book.

People r scared to say anything....look at the two whack jobs that beat up and tried to abduct that girl. They think these hoodlums r from gangs....lol. So, these waste products will roam the streets! I think "stand for something" is right on.
