Rabbits dumped along South Shore -

I am a volunteer at the place that found the rabbits, LIRR. If you are on the fence about getting a house rabbit for a pet let me sway you by saying that they have absolutely changed my life. I don't know if it is their plight, defensless nature, cuteness, or what but I have bonded with an animal that I never thought would even make a good pet. I always thought of rabbits as livestock type animals, ones that rarely come out of their cage. Nothing coudl be further from the truth.
The best thing you can do (next to adopting one/two of course) is tell everyone you know about how good of a pet a house rabbit can be, that is the biggest hurdle, most people just don't know and when they find out most of them bend over backwards to help in anyway they can.

Does it break your heart when helpless and defenseless human beings are killed in nursing homes all over the country every day through neglect and abuse? Just wondering. I never see such an outcry when older humans are being mistreated, but discuss child abuse or animal abuse and everyone has something to say. Not that I advocate either of the latter two, but I am trying to make a point.

As a criminal justice major, I can assure you that even if he/she/they is/are caught, there will be no jail time. This is simply not a priority for the police or the DA. A nice big fine will do. Hit them where it really hurts.
