* A choral group is not permitted to sing in the "worship service," but after a "dismissal prayer" it may entertain that same assembly with spiritual songs.

* Eating a meal in fellowship in a church building is considered to be sinful, but drinking from the water fountain and use of the restrooms are not.

* Eating in the church building is sinful for adults but kids may eat cookies and babies my have their bottles during the sermon.

* Disciples may not eat together where they meet to pray, sing, and teach, but they can pray, sing, and teach where they meet to eat together in homes, parks, and halls.

* Even though many think their sins have been forgiven they expect God to hold them accountable for their sins in a final day of judgment.

* A man is not permitted to sit in the room and listen to a woman while she teaches, but he may buy a tape and listen to her or read her message.

* A woman is doing the will of God when teaching her husband, sons, or other men in her kitchen but is sinning if she does it in a church building.

* The library of a preacher training school has books written by many denominational writers, but those of a certain brothers (progressives) are not permitted.

* When talking about abortion, some disciples contend that life begins at conception, but in discussing spiritual life, they contend that life begins at birth in baptism.

* Most who claim to be reconciled to God through our Mediator still relay their prayers through the Mediator as though they were still alienated from God.

* Many pious preachers brand others who teach error as false teachers thus implying that they themselves have all the perfect answers and teach no error.

* Many disciples in the Church of Christ denounce others for observing days while they themselves observe fifty-two each year, observing the first day of the week as the Lord's Day with certain rituals to be observed on it exclusively.

* Teachers urge that we must obey all the commandments in order to be saved but cannot provide the inquiring sinner a check-list of those commandments.

* Even most of the believers who teach salvation by grace instead of works contend that we must give account in a final judgment for the deeds done in the body, whether they are good or bad.

* Disciples are urged continuously to study the Bible to learn for themselves, but if they learn something different from the party shibboleths, they are denounced for teaching it.

* Americans going to France, the wine country of the world, take along Welch's grape juice, and those going into Mexico, the land of unleavened tortillas, take Matzos along for the Lord's Supper.

* Vacationers dare not stop for assembly where no Church of Christ sign is seen on the premises.

* In one setting a person may speak of his sainted deceased mother as being in heaven with the Lord then at other times maintain that the resurrection and determining judgment are yet in the future.

* Although it is contended that baptism for the remission of sins puts one into the church, persons from other churches who have experienced that are required to be baptized again to be accepted in a Church of Christ.

No doubt, you can add to this list of inconsistencies.

Are We Wrong?

The church of Christ

Virgil L. Hale

Peter wrote, "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear" (1 Pet. 3:15). And in the next chapter, he wrote, "If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God" (1 Pet. 4:11).

These verse tell us that we are to give a reason for what we teach and practice, and that reason must come from the word of God. We are accused of many things by the religious world and I sometimes feel like Paul when he said, "...Neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me" (Acts 24:13). But, are we wrong in what we teach? That's the question I pose in this study.

Are we wrong to preach that there is only one way to heaven? Jesus said, "Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it" (Matt. 7:14). Does this sound like there is more than one way to heaven?

Are we wrong when we teach that Christ is that way? "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life, and no man cometh unto the Father but by me" (John 14:6). Do you know of another way to heaven?

Are we wrong when we teach there is no salvation outside of Christ? Paul wrote, "Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sake, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory" (2 Tim. 2:10).

Are We Wrong?

The Church of Christ

Again, he wrote, "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ" (Eph. 1:3). And of Christ, Paul said, "In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace" (Eph. 1:7).

Are we wrong to say that the only into Christ is by baptism? There are only two passages of scripture which tell us how to get into Christ. Paul wrote both by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

"Know ye not that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death" (Rom. 6:4), and "For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ" (Gal. 3:27).

The scriptures nowhere teach that there is another way into Christ. As one is out of a coat until he puts the coat on, so one is out of Christ until he puts on Christ — and the only way to do that is in baptism.

Are we wrong to say that there is one body? Inspiration says, "there is one body" (Eph. 4:4). In fact, it says, "but one body" (1 Cor. 12:20). Could language be any plainer?

Are we Wrong?

The church of Christ

Are we wrong when we say the body is the one church? We read, "And he is the head of the body, the church" (Col. 1:18). "And hath put all things under his feet, and given him to be the head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all" (Eph. 1:22-23).

Are we wrong when we say that Christ built only one church? Jesus said, "...upon this rock I will build my church..." (Matt. 16:18). Have you ever read where he built another or more than one?

Are we wrong when we say Christ adds the saved to the church? Acts 2:47 says "the Lord added to the church daily, those who were being saved." To which church does He add them?

Based on the last question, are we wrong when we say no one is saved outside the church? If Christ adds the saved to the church — and He does — how can anyone be saved and not be in Christ's church? Paul said both Jew and Gentile are reconciled unto God "in one body" (Eph. 2:16). If reconciliation is "in one body," how can anyone be reconciled to God outside that one body, the church?

Are we wrong to teach that one must believe and be baptized in order to be saved? What does Mark 16:16 teach? "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved." Please diagram that verse and the truth can be easily seen.

Are We Wrong?

The church of Christ

Are we wrong in teaching the urgency of one repenting and being baptized for the remission of sins? Please read Peter's answer to the Jews on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:38). Can we be wrong in telling people to do what he told them to do?[ Matt. 28:18-20, Ed.] Can we be right if we offer remission of sins on any other terms?

Seriously consider these things. Don't go to judgment unprepared to meet God. Please don't let prejudice keep you from seeing and obeying the Truth.

Let's see how PROGRESSIVE Bill really is.

In Aug 5, 2009 George Sodini, 48, of Scott Township, Pa. who opened fire on an exercise class of women in a Pittsburgh gym, killing three people and himself. He wrote in his blog just before committing the sin of murder: "I need to remain focused and absorbed COMPLETELY. Last time I tried this, in January, I chickened out. Lets see how this new approach works. Maybe soon, I will see God and Jesus. At least that is what I was told. Eternal life does NOT depend on works. If it did, we will all be in hell. Christ paid for EVERY sin, so how can I or you be judged BY GOD for a sin when the penalty was ALREADY paid. People judge but that does not matter. I was reading the Bible and The Integrity of God beginning yesterday, because soon I will see them."

Sam Morris, Baptist preacher in Stamford, TX wrote an article entitled, "Do A Christian's Sins Damn His Soul"? Here is a quote from the article: "We take the position that a Christian's sins do not damn his soul. The way a Christian lives, what he says, his character, his conduct, or his attitude toward other people have nothing whatever to do with the salvation of his souls...And all the sins he may commit from murder to idolatry will not make his soul in any more danger."

Bill Foster, Baptist preacher in Louisville KY made this comment: "If I killed my wife and mother and debauched a thousand women I couldn't go to hell--in fact, I couldn't go to hell if I wanted to."

Although these statements appear repulsive, they genuinely represent the official view of most evangelical churches.

Is this OK with you, Bill???

Didnt you understand my answer the first time you posted this.

Lets not leave off the Church of Christ preacher. One Church of Christ preacher preached for years and died. After his death, it was discovered that he had a problem with porn s it was all over his computer. Did he die lost? What about all of the people he baptized?

Many people fall away, who is denying this? Not me.

If he did not repent he's burning in torment now.

If he did repent then he's in paradise now.

The Bible clear on this.

Ezek 18:21-24
21 "But if a wicked man turns away from all the sins he has committed and keeps all my decrees and does what is just and right, he will surely live; he will not die. 22 None of the offenses he has committed will be remembered against him. Because of the righteous things he has done, he will live. 23 Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign Lord. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?
24 "But if a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits sin and does the same detestable things the wicked man does, will he live? None of the righteous things he has done will be remembered. Because of the unfaithfulness he is guilty of and because of the sins he has committed, he will die."

Shawn, the bible never calls the Church by a name as you label such. It describes who the Church belongs to, by many names. I don’t see you using Church of God on you signs. Why not? Oh that’s right, another denomination uses that description.

You quote Rom 16:16 as if they had signs on the lawns “Church of Christ” when in fact they didn’t even hear the word Church. Paul literally said , the called out of Christ. So if you wish to use a true biblical name, then you should change it to what the first century Church heard. They never ever used the word “Church”

Therefore we can call God's church ANYTHING we wish, RIGHT?

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Scorpio

Be careful how you handle a certain someone today because their mood is little short of incendiary. They'll jump down your throat if you dare to disagree with them, and then accuse you of being a wimp if you decide that it would be better to agree with everything they say. You can't win! If they really get on your wick, you'll have to give them a piece of your mind, even if it is supposed to be the season of goodwill to all men. Huh!
