Matt,
Perfumes trigger asthma attacks (up to 72% of asthmatics report that their asthma is triggered by fragrance) and many compounds in fragrance ingredients are known carcinogens.

I don't understand the problem with non smokers. There are plenty of restaurants that are non smoking. There sould be no reason that a non smoker would go to a restaurant that has smoking, if they are so against smoling.

By COLIN NICKERSON
THE BOSTON GLOBE

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia -- Perfume is meant to provoke passion, but not the sort stirring this historic seaport.

To the horror of perfume makers worldwide, Halifax has become the first major center in North America to prohibit the wearing of all cosmetic fragrances -- from Giorgio to grandmother's lavender soap -- in most indoor public places, including municipal offices, libraries, hospitals, classrooms, courts, and mass transit buses.

With little fanfare, and less public debate, a city renowned for its sea breezes and friendly folk has declared underarm deodorant, herbal shampoos, colognes, and other scented products to be hazardous to public health -- or at least too politically incorrect to be countenanced.

The ban, backed by ardent scent opponents, reflects not only concern for people discomforted by fragrances but a grim new environmental view that sees a morning slap of aftershave as a blow against Mother Earth.

For many years I was treated like a 2nd class person because I can`t tolerate tobacco smoke among other things. Now smokers are classed right there with the other harmful drug users. You don`t like being a 2nd class citizen do you. Well neather did I. So just go ahead and have your temper tantrums and keep on smoking. In a few years you will under stand:)

Those opposed to smokers exercising their right to a legal product should find some other, more meaningful subject, to put their energy behind.

Today, in this community our good paying jobs have been ravished by EVERYONE (including you anti-smoker types) who decided you could get a better deal by buying imported products and putting Americans out of work. So, now Erie is a rustbelt city but, hey...."how dare you smokers have a cigarette !"

You could put your energies behind combating the rising rate of illegitimate children born out of wedlock in this community. We have children having babies and the fathers are not accepting responsibility....instead putting the burden and cost of raising these bastard children on the taxpayer ! Anti-smokers....you could use your energies on this topic.

Anti-smokers....you could volunteer a few hours at the Erie Veteran's Administration hospital and show those who served you and the country a bit of thanks.

Anti-smokers....you could attend a city, a county or a township council meeting and INTERACT with or against those long-term politicians many of you love so much.

Remember this anti-smokers....you have the CHOICE not to occupy any area where there are smokers. You have the choice to frequent a non-smoking establishment. You have the choice to have non-smoking friends. But if you insist on denying others their right to choose, how long will it be before somebody or some government agency comes after YOU ?

Your logic is flawed. Have an other cigarette. Seek wisdom in the nicotine. Nicotine will set you free. Make you feel-good. Don`t worry about cancer, it won`t happen to you, it will only happen to sum one else. Be happy, take an other puff. Injoy life. Have an other cigarette:)

Tobacco is a legal substance produced for consumers. If you don't like being around it, then leave. I don't frequent bars and taverns because I don't want to be there. However, because I don't appreciate these lawful establishments, I don't tell others that they should not frequent them.

As I wrote above....contribute your energies to something worthwhile, rather than ranting about something that is a legal product and citizens have the choice to use or not to use.

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Gemini

You're in a very erratic mood today, making you restless, edgy and nervy. It may be almost impossible to settle to anything for long, because, as Mercury slows, you soon lose interest. If life becomes boring you'll want to liven it up in some way and it's likely you'll choose the most disruptive and controversial option you can think of, even though you know this will cause trouble.
